engine not cooling
engine not cooling
OK.. I gotta '91 bird with a V6. I was leaking coolant and overheating, so.... I replaced the H20 pump. When that didnt work I knew the leak was my freeze plugs. After pulling the engine replacing 3 blown plugs, I finally got the engine back in place. well.. then I found a leak in the radiator. To boil it down I replaced the radiator, the cap, the upper and lower radiator hoses, but the engine is not cooling. When I start the engine and let it idle to up to temp <with the heater on> the engine never cools. I am about to replace the thermostat.. but is there anything else I may be overlooking.. I have followed my repair manuals. I am at a loss..... Any help or advice out there??? thx
Does operating the heater (ON HEAT, FAN BLOWING), while it's hot, lower temp?
Does the fan turn on?

It sounds like you have covered everything.
Like KED85 mentioned, does you fan come on?Normaly the fan won't come on until the temp gets close to 220.Atleast that is where mine kicks on.I also have mine connected to a switch so I can turn it on when I want to.
If it works then it looks like the thermo is the last thing. If that doesn't work then it could be something internal. We'll hope not!

the fan finally kicked on last night at about 230 degrees.... the good news is it didnt shoot str8 to the red.. the bad news is it is holding at 230... but I have been to lazy to go do the thermo yet today <OK actually it is way too hot outside to go change it> but I have my fingers crossed.. thanx

you could have air in the system and the coolant can't circulate?

TRY TURNING ON THE HEATER (blower & temp on HIGH) NEXT TIME IT GETS HOT.
Tell us what happens.
I strongly think you have bad air flow to the radiator.
Like lower deflector is missing.
One of those things missing really heats up this car, BAD.
Did you blow compressed air out of the A/C condensor, to remove any debris?
