Fixing tail lights

I was washing my car the other day and i noticed when i sprayed the tail light, i said "hey those look good." they look brand new wet. i came back after drying the car and looked at the lights and said, "Yep they look like crap." my question is. Is there some sort of polish or cleaner that will make my tail lights look new, or newer? I was was think maybe i can try a poishing compound or something. Is there a polish for plastic??

YES THERE IS!
How good is it for your problem?
That's different.
Easiest solution is to call a motorcycle shop ask for polish for face mask lenses.
TRY THAT.
IT MAY WORK.
YOU CAN ALSO TRY polishing compound, too.
BUT, try the motorcycle shop, first, on the way back home hit aparts store and get Dupont (Number 7) WHITE polishing compound.
TRY BOTH, use lots of water with the polishing compound (to ask as a lubricant and not to mar/scratch the surface).
Don't get grossed out, use old t-shirts/diapers.
Best rags. NOT TERRY CLOTH towels, to
abrasive.
ONLY USE ELBOW GREASE, NO machines.
AFTER THAT & if it works for ya, use Lemon Pledge Furniture wax, to buff out.

I agree with KED I use a product by Lockhart Philips to clean my gauge lenses and tailights it is designed not to scratch also Eastwood carries a Plastic Compound (13138) that is good for tailights you get 13oz for $5.99 plus shipping.

It'll probably scratch the snot out of it. You don't want high speed at all... just a very slow hand-buffing action.

ELBOW GREASE!!!
ELBOW GREASE!!!
Tire stuff works great, but, it doesn't remove the swirl/scratches.
Old Number 7 Dupont is like $2 a can.
Motorcycle stuff is about 3 times that cost.
Both can work, Wet t-shirt (OFF the Girl!! ), lite amount of the stuff, finger effort, SMALL AREA TO TEST!!!!
You'll do great!
