how do i clear the computer on my 1991 3.1 V6 auto RS
how do i clear the computer on my 1991 3.1 V6 auto RS
How do i do that where is that wire at. is it the tan wire with the black stripe on it comming out of the wiring harness. somebody tell me step by step how to do this. i think my comp is screwed up and not running right so i thought i would clear it and see if that helps.
Save yourself some trouble. Just pull the battery wire for 30 seconds. Good as new! Payce.

u can actually just pull the ecm fuse in the fuse panel and it works, and u dont lose your presets.

Graemes...if you trip your VATS system, and pull your power (ie. reset your computer) will your car crank up? Reason I'm asking is I accidentally tripped it, and I tried pulling the fuse AND unplugging the battery, and not only was my radio still set, but my VATS was still tripped.....so did my computer reset or not?
Best is if you disconnect the battery, both terminals, overnight.
Atleast 1/2 hour does it.
But for your case, Ovrclck, that's a good question.
My 1985 does not have the VATS system to deal with.

I got a better idea... instead of waiting all these minutes for the power to drain out, why dont you just unplug the battery as usual and then switch on everything you can, lights, radio, horn, try to start it even. That'll suck any juice out thats keeping the computers memory alive.

AntiVTEC, sounds like a good idea to me!
Remember to always yank the negative cable first, then pull the positive. When putting 'em back on, put the positive on first, then the negative. It's safer; since you're probably leaning against the metal car body when you work on the battery.
