If it's a 1985 Camaro and it's a carb, WALK AWAY.
It's to early for you!
1985 started MPFI!!

IF ya wanna cam, go the GM & get the 3.4 cam. Designed by CRANE CAMS for the v-6 series (or in other words, it's already in the 3.4 engine!!).
IT's a SUPERIOR design to anything out there.
AND get the 3.4 valve springs, too.
Designed for 6500RPM ambushes!!
Go with 1.52 roller tip rockers.
They fit under factory valve covers!
You already have the 3.4 heads. Same as 2.8/3.1
New chain, is $50 (w/gasket set) 800-831-0884 Norhtern Auto Parts, delivered. Speed Pro chain & Fel Pro gasket.

If it's an 85, it should be MPFI.

Does it -really- have 52K on it? Or 152K. 85 speedo's don't reach up into the hundreds of thousands. 152K seems more likely.

Assuming the body is in decent condition:

If it's FI and only got 52K, ****** it up!!!

If it's FI and has 152K, 1500 is a good price.

If it's carberated and has 52K, ehh...

If it's carberated and has 152K, talk him down alot or leave it.

As for mods... carbed cars tend to be easier to get at stuff, and to be less complicated, but also tend to make less power. If you can dial in a carb, I don't see why it should be that much of a problem.

Here's a couple suggestions.
Any local GM dealer.
12363220-cam w/lifters
springs-12363215
retainers-12363216
All designed by Crane cams for GM
All standard on the 3.4 engines.
CHECK OUT A FWD engine.
Maybe get just the cam & springs & retainers & lifters from a wrecked car.
Save some moola!!

.050 lift (i)=204* (e)=216*
lift is .427"/.454
Lobe separation is 107*
Attainable 6500 RPM with proper springs.
Or call several hot rod catalogs
Try Northern Auto Parts 800-831-0884
Suiox City Iowa.

Also try www.kayauto.com
& ask for Saul Felix, tell him Karl w/ q 1974 Corvette & 1968 Camaro sent ya.
See if he can help ya.

KED85,
A FWD Cam will fit, I thought the engines had small differences between FWD, and RWD, but if not, off to the junk yards I must go...

WAY COOL!
I think I may try visiting one myself!!
I can't wait to get this 2.8 in my S-10 Blazer alive again.
I did want a hotter cam for this MPFI head swap. Soon, I discover the compression in the engine, adjusting the valves.
I really want another 3.4 cam. These 2.8 cams have a flat spot about 2500 rpm or so.
