My ram air finally done, lil twist on the concept.

well thought this one over for a long time and fianlly got it done a week ago.

i have a 91 rs that had the POS air box on the side wich got crap for air.

What i did was pull a older duel snorkel intake off a older camaro. i took the the whole thing including the plastic piece for the filter's. Now i have a regular grill not the fod light one, and if u look at the grill it is directing the air right to where the air box's are. all i did was cut off the bottoms of the boxes for the filters cause they dont do anything anyway.

also in that older intake the MAF sensor is in between the the TB and the air flow so i broke the houseing apart and tore it out and glued it back together.

I got everything done and noticed a big diffrence when punching it after u get going.

just for ****s and giggles i did one run with nothing hooked up and air going stright to the TB and didnt notice any diffrence at all.

Now the snorkle part of the system is right over the raditor soooo, get some heat rap from a parts store or summit and rap it up good to keep the air cool.

total cost to me was 20 for the parts from the bone yard and 10 bucks in cheap filters to get me going, KN's cost 29.95 a pop but i will grap them soon, the heat rap is not to bad either just look in summit or Jegs they have it.

hope this helps some of u guys workin on this one iam very happy with the results.

Grouper ,
I have a 88 camaro .In february I put a new 2.8 in it , then decided to mod the airbox , I had the setup you have , I just did not have k&n and I still had the bottems in the boxes .I drilled out part of the bottems and took that plastic piece about 4 inches underneath it off and took the airsilencer off the MAF .Yes it is amazing how much better airflow and make the car come to life huh ? Do you have a 3.1 or do you have a 305 .I was scard to cut the hole bottem off my boxes so I left part of it in there , Did you saw off the hole bottems are just saw big holes in them ? I was thiking of cutting out the rest of mine but was scard Id get to much airflow .I wasn't real clear on your MAF mod either , did you take the sensor out in put back the housing back on or what ? ...Thanx Wayne :-)

hey I have a 88 RS too and I already had the dual snorkel thig going all I did was saw the whole bottom of the air boxes out and left enough to connect 2 8in. AC ducting pipes running in from of the radiator and right behind the grill. THere is no such thing as too much airflow. Got my 2 K&N's for 25 bucks from GR sales in L.A.

i would like to do that to my 3.4....i have that exact same setup also... i was thinking,,,what if you took off that snorkal setup and just put on a k&n conical air filter(i think that is the one i mean) on the end of the MAF? would that work? or what would happen? i've been wondering about that for a while....also pictures would help alot

thanks
