who told u that at PAW? i used to work there so i can go and smack him upside the head. The 2.8, 3.1, 3.4 all have the same block, 3.4 and 3.1 are bored and stroked...

Graeme, you cannot bore out a 3.1 to make a 3.4.
We finally figured that detail out. I can pull up the specs from the GM books, too.
The 3.4 block is meatier and the internals are different. Using 3.1 internals does not make a stroked 3.4. You can get that "kit", but, why pay for that when you buy the correct 3.4 engine and have more room for the rebuild one day.
The heads, yes are same (as are the valves), but the springs and the retainers are different.
WHY ARE THE ALUMINUM HEADS DIFFERENT?
The valves for the alum. are splayed, like a Chevy Big Block.
Our iron heads valves are side by side.
Thus they FIT, but will not interchange intake systems.
It wasn't our decision to be stuck with the cast iron heavy heads! I'd like the alum. heads, myself, too. I had a pair for free, I tossed them back to the pile of heads.
