ok, here's the deal: my auto 87 camaro will not go over 100 mph, and i've read about people on this board that go over 120. when i hit the 100 mark, it sounds like my engine is at high rpm's (in drive). is there any way i can keep the pedal to the metal in overdrive, or is that physically impossible with my tranny?

86 Trans Am w/ built 355TPI with SLP goodies and too much other stuff to List. One sweet *** car, wish I would have had a good enough Job to pay insurance on three cars so I could keep it, but for a 89 Turbo Trans Am w/ Low miles, I think I made the right choice!

I've had my auto up to 112 without any hesitation or anything (I think it was still in 3rd). Oh, nevermind, you have a 2.8.

You can make your 700r4 use overdrive at high speeds. I've done it to my transmission. Hop to http://www.bmracing.com and look for their "700r4 kickdown kit". It's a replacement TV sleeve that allows you to hold 4th at high speed. The kit works great; at high speed in fourth (when your pedal's near the ground), the trans won't downshift. At really high speeds (like the ones you want), I've had the pedal against the floor, and it won't kick down into 3rd.
In fact, in normal driving, when the trans grabs OD, you need to push the pedal almost to the carpet to get a downshift. Because of that, I just slide the stick from OD to D when I want to pass someone. It's rather embarassing to rev the engine to 5 grand just to pass a little old lady in a Geo Metro!
The mod's easy. You drop the trans pan, unbolt the TV linkage, pull the roll pin, remove the old TV sleeve from the valvebody, insert the new sleeve, put the pin and linkage back, and put the pan back up with new fluid/filter/gasket. Then you re-set the TV cable & go for a ride.
I actually just gave PurpleMonkey directions on yanking the TV sleeve out. The most work involves taking the pan down without spilling the fluid all over the floor! Working s-l-o-w-l-y, the sleeve swap couldn't take more than 20 minutes, including a beer/cigarette break.

thanks a lot tom, i'll look into that! (that break would be a whole lot easier if i were 21...dammit!)
