He has my idea, as you were thinking, also.
I was actually thinking of using the Headlights idea from the LeMans Corvettes, twin small lights under a dome. But it goes for about $500 & it incorporates a fan, to keep the aired in area, cool.
I can understand that last detail, very well!! I couldn't figure out where to score those small fans, that was my problem! Rest is easy!!

Nah, it's way easy
So many options.
Late model BMW lights fit probably perfectly
Here's how he did his set up.
If ya look at one frame, he shows enough detail.
First ya remove all elements of lights/motors from the Firebird nose.
Next ya make a metal box/frame. Obtain one per side light mount. Insert the light mount, using a level to make sure it's straight. By using a car headlight mount, you have adjustment. Next to it is an aftermarket light assembly. The turn signals are never touched.
Next you obtain a piece of plexiglass, flat, cut to size. Screw attach to front bumper, lay back, just missing the hood line, for the air inlets. Done! Side piece is glued on.
Got the idea?
I like the one offered by MidAmerica Corvette.
Those lights get very hot in there and ya need cooling air to control the heat or fire or melting stuff occurs.
Try www.midamericacorvette.com to see the LeMans styled Corvette set up (with fan), that I also like.

If you need small fans, you can pick up computer fans at Radio Shack that are less than 2 inches square and up to 6 inches... the wiring is very simple and you can even add a switch to it to add another gadget to your instrumentation...
YOU BELIEVE THOSE AC RUN FANS CAN BE CONVERTED TO DC? That's the one detail!
I just got a reply from the guy.
He's cool. I was right about the heat. He used Heat resistant lexan plexiglass.

well when I forst read the subject the first thing that came to mind was the Feiro conversion. Beleive it or not they use the same parts. Now as far as the radio shacks fans, yes they are D/C fans, 1 black and 1 red wire. Go figure. I have no clue how much the feiro conversion is but I'm sure it'll work.
Now as for the covering. Go Plexiglass, it has a higher temp resistance. upwards of 350-400 degress. I don't have my Aircraft Spruce catalog in front of me but if memory serves me right thats about the temp range Plexi has. Lexan is actually much lower I believe. It's around the same as Acrylic which is around 300 degrees.
Now while I am stuck with a lowly camaro LOL front clip and it is FAR from aerodynamic. A problem I am working on right now. I am leaning twoards BMW 4 inch roundies behind a plexiglass sheet. I want to look different and I'm sure this'll do it.

I like the way the car looks with the light conversion. I found a website along time ago that made a conversion for our firebird, but i lost the site when my old harddrive craped out on me, i remember the first day i found the site after 3 hours of web surfing. i'll try and make my own.

Sorry guys but it looks dumb, doesn't go with the car and looks like a chop job. Alignment would be a pain and it just doesn't look good, looks like the guy got some add on fog lamps and put them through a piece of yellow card board and then put a straight piece of plastic that doesn't follow the lines of the car which makes it really look cheap. GOOD IDEA OVER ALL but this guy isn't very creative, man I can think of a lot better ways of doing it. LIKE GET SOME HEADLIGHTS OUT OF a 300ZX and put them in THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!!!!!
