PLEASE HELP! what is wrong with my gauges???

well as you all know i have my V6 Camaro, my question is:

my temp, oil, and voltage gauges are electrical, they dont have a needle, from the looks of it they use a meter of light to tell ya the readings, i think something is wrong with them because when i turn on my car all the gauges turn bright red as if they are working, then right after they turn off... they dont read anything there just blank and dotn give me any readings, i have no idea what could be doing this, should i check my fuses? if anyone has my gauges or knows of wich ones im talking about could you tell me what could be doing this, i would be very greatful.

sorry if i posted hti in the wrong section but maybe one of you guys have the same gauges i have. please help

I don't have those gauges, but, that reaction may be typical, needing a whole gauge swapping.
I base this on Corvettes of that era, same story same solution.

I too have those gauges, which i hate. I have a 85 camro w/ the 2.8 and no tach. And i have a 86 camaro 2.8 parts car, which has the needles and a tach. Will the cluster w/ the tach work in my 85. And will the tach work to?

The tach, fuel, and speedo from a full instrumentation cluster SHOULD work. But, the oil pressure, and temp guages won't work right until you swap the switches for sending units.

umm your saying at start up they come on but a split sec after the car is running they go off.. They are working properly then. They will not go out until they get a reading. Now as for guages, you can go to auto zone or order a 3 guage set for 20 bucks and hook it up. I have actual guages but I want aftermarket ones so I know they are correct.

well... ok when i turn on the car all 3 gauges turn full red, they dotn give me a reading unless the temp is skyrocketing hot lol, then after about1-2 seconds they turn off and i gte no more readigns fromt hem what so ever there just off, if this helps, when i turn on the car but just to listen to music while polishing ym rims, only the voltage guage and the oil gauge turn on full red, but the temp gauge stays off. well today i am going to the chevy dealer and im goig to see how much it is "and if they still have" an owners manual for my car.

i think tis prettys tupid the guy i bought the car off didn't have the owners manual.

You can buy the owner's manual from http://www.helminc.com - that's the publication company for GM. That's where I bought my GM service manual. (I also had to buy an owner's manual from them, too.)

GM dealers can order them too, and as with everything from a GM parts counter, no shipping charges.
