SES only below 100 degrees?

My car runs greataccording to a mechanic. I didn't want to pay for the computer checking device, so he didn't use that, but he used the smog machine and his knoledge check the car and said it was running perfect. But at night or in the morning when its cold outside, I ger a SES light until the thing hits 100 degrees then the light goes out, the car runs great during. He said it might be the coolent temp sensor, what do you guys think?

I paid $30 for my SES checker at Autozone.
AND I PAID TO MUCH!
Some use a paperclip.
I cheated, I wanted the "crib" notes version of what's going on (what codes mean), too.
Go to the parts store for this tool, very useful!

Yeah man, either jam the paper clip in, or pick up one of those code readers. The code will tell you what's up... whenever the SES light comes on, the code gets stored. I heard a mechanic tell someone that "if the light's not on now, I can't get the code"- I just think the mech didn't want to touch the guy's car. https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/f...gen.shtml#misc has the directions- you want pin #s 5 & 6. Don't start the car (don't crank the engine, just turn the key to "on") with the paperclip in... it's like a 1 in 5 chance you'll blow something... the computers are picky about that.

The code list there isn't too clear; some codes mean different things between engines & years of F-bodies.... we can clarify if the code's different.

I think I will pick up one of those code readers, because if I blow my computer, i will be up **** creek.

I think the thing correlating to the temp is just a coincidence, becausee I just noticed that my volt guage dances to the beat of the music, and likes to hang right above 8, maybe its time for a cap and a new bat.

Hmm if my light goes on then back off the code is lost. For a while I was getting a breif ses on the highway but when I get home to check.. NO CODE. It eventually just completely went away so no foul.

10 bucks at wally world... If your guage is danceing at 8 volts your alt is REALLY LOW. How many watts you pushing?, I am pushing close to 500 right now and the stock alt could not keep up with it for some reason. I could run sterio but no A/C, or A/C and no sterio... got old FAST. called Mr Alternator I'll look for the number but they have a 160 amp alt DIRECT FIT FOR THE 3.1 FOR GET THIS $189!!!!! NEW INTERNALS REFURBISHED CASE(for the really right fir I guess) but have had for almost a month and no problems... took a little long to get here but went in in 15 minutes.
Ok lost it so I'll do a search and find it for ya.

Ok here ya go 1(864)591-1066. Sometimes its hard to get ahold of the gut that's in charge of tracking the orders(he is looking for a bigger location for manufacturing) but overall no real complaints here. BTW they are in Spartanburg South Carloina.
