Yes & No.
NO, It's your imagination. And not a put down.
Yes, YOUR CURRENT ENGINE SET UP, may NOT have liked removing what back pressure was built into your exhaust system.
Back pressure=equals some torue.
CALL FLOWMASTER for their response.
AND, perhaps, your engine needs some more power.
How you get that is up to your budget.
When I put the Flowmaster 2 chamber 2 1/2"in to two 2" exhaust out, on my S-10 Blazer (1985 2.8 carb), it loved it. More top end and I compensated for the lower end I played with distributor (I could w/my version). I was able to reach speeds of 90-95 MPH with that truck.
Perhaps disconnect the computer and then try again?

It is possible .I know mufflers don't give the performance the manufactorers say they do .But when I changed to a dynamax from a flowmater .I noticed more power in my dynamax .It wasn't a big increase but I noticed it .I remember you telling me you had an aftermarket muffler on your car before you got the flowmaster, its possible that whatever kind of muffler it was it flowed a little better .However the car should not seem a that much slower from putting on your flowmaster .Talk to you later buddy , Wayne

yeah funny you all say that cuz my top end did improve and my low end is what is suffering although it was a little better today i think i gotta break it in a little better i need some good low end torque!!!!!!!!!! damn i need that 3.4
Clear you ECM. You have changed the way the car breathing you need to blow all the old values stored in the ECM. If you get the K&N do it again. Just rember every time you change the way the car runs you need to blow those old values away and you will see better respones. Just pull the negtive bat cable for a minute and reconect.

Or if you don't want to have to retune your stereo, just yank the ECM fuse.. it should be right by the battery and attached to the inside of the fender.

actualy, the flowmaster 80 series, while more free flowing then stock and a few others, is more restrictive then many of more quieter systems out there, ya i know it sounds wierd, but i just pulled of a muffler that had a staight shot through, no turns no baffles no nothing, u could see straight through, and it was ALOT quieter then the flow master, and im almost 100% certain that it flowed better then the flowmaster, think of flowmasters as "sound chambers" more then as high performance mufflers, thats why they are so cheap, cause when u spend 160 for an SLP muffler or something like that, your gonna get something quiet which flows really well. but chances are it did flow more, did u notice a top end gain?
just my $.02
