84 Firebird 2.8L

Firing Order, problem.

I know it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

135 on Passenger
246 on Driver.

But how does it work? I'm new to all the auto stuff

I've changed the spark plugs in it earlier and I must got the wires wrong, so when I drive some, I start hearing popping sounds and then the car shuts off.

Re: 84 Firebird 2.8L

ICM= Ignition Control Module If the car wasn't doing that prior to changing out the plugs than its likely you may have put the wires in the wrong place but still in the right order. Only way to really know for sure is to pull out the #1 plug and turn the engine with a wrench on the harmonic balancer's bolt and have someone put their finger over the plug hole till you feel air coming out and line widest slot on the balancer with the 10* mark on the timing tab. Then take off the distributor cap to see where the rotor is. Then just put the #1 plug wire on the cap's post that is right where the rotor is pointed and run the rest of the wires in order.
