losing or gaining hp/torque with converter gutted ?

Most of you prabably have heard me say my converter is gutted .I have heard that it helps and I have also heard you loose horsepower .Or do you gain high end torque and loose low end or neither .When I gutted mine I noticed it was a little bit faster but it may just be in my head you know .Do you think I would flow better with a high flow converter ? or just leave it as it is .I do have a dynamax muff and I know when I put that on there I felt an increase in horsepower so I dont want to loose it if I decide to get a high flow cat .Thanx for your input guys , Wayne ...88 rs camaro 2.8

well... It can help yes. And it can hurt. I have said many a time that a too free flowing exhaust robs power before but... Too free a flowing can rob torque like a theif.

With my cat gutted I seemed to pull much better over 70MPH, much better, but below 70 the umph ithad seemed gone...

Just my opinion...

I would get a high flow cat like I did.. save the environment...

Don's Hot Rod. Get a 2 1/2" in & a 2 1/2" out cc for $60-ish.
Same thing with a fancier box is what ya buy elsewhere.

you should gain a little power by gutting those cats though you may loose a little low end. you would be much better off though by getting a straight pipe instead.
thats the one thing that sux about cats is they create a lot of turbulance and so you lose power across the whole rpm range.
I had three of the bastards on my car and when I took them off and replaced them with a presilencer it made a BIG difference from about 1500-7500 rpms
though granted the difference is in the higher rpms

just go to the muff shop have them make you a bolt on test pipe that is the same size as your cat and then run it. if you dont like it you can always put your cat back on
