Cat?

My cat is need of replacing. I think I have put it off long enough and should break down and do it. My question is which one should i get. i want to replace mine with a high flow cat, but can't find one that is listed as a direct replacment for my car.

If any one has done this and happens to rember the part number please post it.

I have a.

Performance for Power. Same thing, different box.
$60 size-2 1/2" in-n-out.
You cut the old fittings off your old CC & weld them onto the new CC.
He's in Phoenix AZ, cheap shipping.
I still have mine on my S-10 Blazer since 1990 & it passes smog, too.

Nobody searches the old messages, eh?

Your CatCo cat # is part #CTO-4115. That was found thru Summit's site, http://www.summitracing.com . I did a "Manufacturer Search", and on the top of the search screen, I told it department = "Exhaust", section = "catalytic convertors", manufacturer = "catco". A list popped up. I chose our setup, which is a 2.5" inlet, and 2.5" flanged ball outlet. A box popped up- and the cat looks just like my current one (made by PFP, not carried by Summit anymore). I clicked on applications, and there it was, standing out at me- 82-92 Camaro 2.8/3.1 ! If the pic & and description (flanged ball out) is right, this not only the cat for your car, but it's a direct bolt-in (no welding required)!</font>

I still have my "special" convertor from my 77 T/A, saving it for someday, maybe a firebird, maybe a regal. Pretty sure it's flowing more than stock now

Oh okay, no problem; I actually have the cat that Karl mentioned... it's been good so far, and if it's still $60, go after that one. The damn 'net's been slow as hell lately; and I'm still wondering where the "reply to message" and "post new topic" graphics have gone to!

if you dont need emissions I would recomend just putting a straight pipe in. or just swap in the cat on emissions day
you can gain some from those cats not much but a little
the cats put out a turbulent(sp?) air and will cause the exhaust gas to slow down. if you get a straight pipe that will keep the airflow nice and fast and give you more power. the higher you rev the more you gain also.

also straight pipe is much better then a gutted cat and makes your car a little louder.

rx7speed,
When i had to gut the cat on my T/A, hanging to low & cracked element from speed bump, the car had a lower, mellower tone. Sounded like the difference between a 454 & a 502 ( heard both engines on boats, each had 2 motors & DAMN, twin 502s sound SWEET)
Didn't notice any power gain, but I looked legal and didn't have to worry about tampering issues.

yeah they work a gutted cat but they are still more restrictive then a straight pipe. though I am also running 3 cats when stock.
but when I gutted them out I noticed a little gain but a straight pipe made a big difference and made it a lot louder though
still have yet to be harrassed by the cops

just go to your local muff shop and try a test pipe only cost like 50 or so prolly and they make a decent performance increase.
and if nothing else they sound a lot better
a gutted cat is still ike running a extra muffler

go to a local muffler shop? The pu$$ies round here are scared $h*tless to modify anything about a cat convertor. Those who take the time will know that, even if it takes a custom Y pipe, you can still have a "legel" exhaust. I realy don't think any shop will fit a straight pipe for you, but if you can find one, more power to you.

he wont be able to put any straight pipe on or a gutted cat. he lives in CA. best bet is a hi flow cat like catco or products for performance.

Yeah CA is a PITA when it comes to emmisions crap. I made an attempt at puting the Catco on, but have to give up and take it to a muffler shop.

I couldn't get the original cat off the car. It was stuck like a big dog. But it's on there now and I am much happier. It even altered the sound a bit.

that sux
had a guy at the muff shop put on my header and straight pipe no questions asked

took off all 3 of my cats doing it also :-D

all I can say is go to the smallest place you can find
or do it yourself with lots of wd-40

oh yeah I think you can give the muff shop the size you need and they can go from there
