Why do bad things happen to good people?
Why do bad things happen to good people?
Hi guys! I've posted on this board before but that was a while ago and under a different name. Anywayz. This morning I was walking out to my car to go to a job interview and guess what. All 4 of my wheels have been ripped off. And this isn't the first time something like this has happened. My car has also been stolen from right out of my friends driveway and broken into on another occasion. Why do you think people pick on Camaro's so much. Well anyway I've now gotten new wheel's but they aren't as good as the old ones. This sucks. So here is a tech question. I have a small exhaust leak coming from my headers. Is there anything I can buy at a car parts store to patch this. It's making my car run lean. Any help would be great. Thanks.

they have some exhaust tape that is metalic and supposed to stop any leaks
dont never never used it though... though that is for a cracked manifold.
other then that try jb weld or take it into a shop to have the crack welded together

Hey, Wuzup! JB Weld? No offence but I really doubt that stuff could handle the heat. But thanks for the suggestions. Yep they are stock headers. They suck!! I wish they made more aftermarket parts for our cars, and most of the good ones they do make aren't leagal in California. I can live with the leak though, for the time being. Untill I can afford to take it to an automotive machine shop. The problem is where the headers bolt up to the exhaust ports. A bolt is broken off in there and then a small hole was blown in the gasket. So I need to have them drill out the bolt, then tap & die it then remove the headers and replace the gasket. EXPENSIVE!
But I'm still wondering if there is anything to patch this untill I can afford to have it fixed by a pro. Oh by the way, the new rims I got aren't too bad. I'm starting to like them. They are steel crome plated. Decent design too. The old ones were alumanum aloy. But the new tires I got are WAY better!!! These *****'s GRIP! Much better than the BF Goodrich Advantage GT's I had on there. And they are both 235/60/R15's. Well if anybody knows anything about fixing exhaust leaks let me know. Oh one last thing, CaliCamaroRS sorry man, I like the name, I didn't know anybody else was using it, I've been using calicamaro88 for months on many online boards. Well talk to ya guys later.

By the way, "stock headers" are called exhaust manifolds... don't want people jumping on you for claiming real headers.
First off, there should be no exhaust gasket ANYWHERE on your engine. There's none between the head or the exhaust manifold, and there's none between the manifold and y-pipe.
Second, how bad is the bolt? You say it's snapped; is it snapped flush with the head? On 3 sets of heads, (mine, my junkyard set, and a friend's pair), they had snapped bolts. It was actually more like the bolt HEAD snapped off, leaving the rest of the bolt there. All I needed to do was remove the manifold, spray some liquid wrench down there (which I don't think was really needed!), clamp vise-grips HARD onto the bolt threads, and, BY HAND, unscrew the bolt.
I'm not sure why the bolt heads snapped off; maybe the bolt shoulders rusted to the manifold, and kept the bolt from turning? But the bolt itself was easy as hell to turn with the vise grips. I did have to tap one lightly with a hammer, but nowhere near as hard as I thought I would.
Oh and please tell me you had wheel locks on your wheels?

Thanks TomP your're right they are "exhaust manifolds" I'm just so used to saying headers I forgot there was a difference. So you say it's easy to fix my problem. Cool. The hard part will be geting the rest of the bolts off they are all rusted to hell. Why could'nt GM use stainless steel? Oh well. I didn't have wheel locking lug nuts on my old wheels but thats because I didn't think anybody would want them enough to go to the trouble to steal them. My old rims were just that "old". They looked all faded and scrached. I never would of thought anybody would rip them off. Live and learn. There are some sick people in this world. But I did get wheel locks for my new rims. Nobody will ever take my new wheels!

I picked up a ton of new bolts for my exhaust manifolds; I'll see if I can find the spec I wrote down for 'em. Pep Boys had them.. Home Depot only carries grade 5 (metric 8.8) strength bolts; those won't cut it. Exhaust (and most other engine bolts) needs grade 8 (metric 10.9) bolts.. and amazingly enough, Pep Boys had 'em. (It was the last place I looked!) Use a ton of anti-sieze on the bolts; coat 'em to hell.
