Weight Factor

Just curious if anyone has ever stripped the inside of there 3rd gen, all excpet the drivers seat, just 2 see the difference it would make on the track. I wonder what kind of difference removing that weight would make?

Thanxs,

removing weight is always an easy way to achieve maximum vehicle performance, not when f*rd made the cobra R they removed any and everything that they thought wasn't essential to vehicle performance, not to shabby, unforutnatly the car only performed as well as a Z06 vette, which i would have expected much more. But yeah, say you strip the carpet, rear seats, headliner, dash, center console, front seats, and replace the drivers seat with a lighweight seat, then of course remove everything from the trunk, including the spare tire, you should easily have removed 3 or 4 hundred pounds from the car. That would give you a vehicle that weighs in at say 2700lbs, not to shabby for a 135hp, you could probaly expect times around low low 16's maybe 15's not sure. It'd probaly be comprible to a fiero GT. lol

I rule to go by is for every 200 to 300lbs its like making a extra 30 to 50hp.... good for 1/4 to 1/2 in the quarter mile

Floor mats
Sound System (ugh)
The "Firebird" center wheel caps if applicable
Empty washer fluid reservoir
Sail panel covers

I've got a site that says what each thing is worth in weight, also:

damn, can't find it. It's fairly easy to search for, though, IIRC.

Other things you can do:
Smaller aluminum wheels (13-14 inch)
Skinny front wheels and tires
Remove spoiler (less drag, less weight)
Switch to aluminum flywheel, aluminum driveshaft and disc breaks
Fiberglass: hood, front fascia, rear hatch and doors
Remove GFX

You could also eliminate food from your diet LOL

Hell yeah "smaller tires"... you guys wouldn't believe how friggin' heavy my rear tires are- P275/60r15's on a 15x8 chrome steel rim! I must say I'm thinking of losing the "big tire in back" look for next summer; it's gotta be killing my quarter time. If nothing else, it's just a pain to fit the thing in the backseat when it gets flat!
