V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
I'm planning on buying a 1985 Camaro 2.8 V6 and am wondering if anybody knows if it's more economic regarding fuel consumption than a 350 TPI.
FACTS if you have, please.

my best friend had a 92 RS 3.1L Auto and got about 18-20 combined city highway
Re: V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
My 2.8 fuel injected with the V6 fuel injection mod on this forum and k&n filter and flowmaster gets around 29mpg freeway, maybe more. And the last time I checked with just normal driving it was at 25mph. Though if yours is a carb it might not get that good.

Not to sound like too much of a jerk here, but, what would you expect? A 350 is twice the size of our V6 engines, do the math. Of course it gets worse mileage. Not just because the same fuel tank is feeding 2 more, larger cylinders, but it's also pulling more weight due to increased engine, accessory, and fluid mass (more oil and coolant in the engine).
I've hit 30-31 MPG highway with a code 45... Took years to get there.

Re: V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
Way back when I cared and took note, I got 25+ driving like I stole it with a 2.8 T5 combo. Gas was only like $1.30 a gallon then too. [I member as if ultra 94 was $1.50 or less id buy it]
don't really watch it anymore, as its well beyond my V8 car that gets 10-12 on a good day.
I just enjoy putting 5gallons of gas in the Bird and having a half of tank that last forever.
5gallons in the V8 car is 1 drive around the block

Re: V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
Thank you guys for all your anwers!
Talk of the engine working as an air pump, two cylinders more to feed etc:
I get 25 mpg moderate highway cruising with my 1957 Pontiac powered by a 1987 GTA 350 cu in TPI engine.
Of course, with a voluptous body like that, the mileage suffers real fast if I drive it hard...
Compared to a german Ford I owned powered by a 121 cu in (2000ccm) V-6, which never got me more than 20 mpg.
You never know for sure...
The V-8 makes more power and torque as it sucks in more air and gas, so a lot of the difference is in the induction efficiency, rear gears etc.

Re: V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
Key words in your statement being "Ford" and "20 MPG"... Ford. They circled the problem.
Re: V6 vs V8 fuel consumption
I'm getting literally 15 right now on the second check and I can't figure out WHY. Any ideas guys? I can't find threads on my car which is a 2.8L V6 Berlinetta. read my profile to get an idea about the car. This is getting annoying so any help is appreciated.
