Cruise Control
Yeah, it's another problem post. The car is practically falling apart! Ok, this one is about the cruise control. I get the car up to a speed, and set the cruise control on. It holds speed for a second, then falls about 4 mph below the speed I set it for..then the cruise control gives the engine a hefty amount of gas, raising the speed right up to where I set it, then the cruise control completely lets off the gas and lets the speed fall. It does this over and over..as you can imagine, it's pretty irritating. The only change in this behavior is when I take turns. It seems to hold a steady speed during long curves and stuff..I can't figure it out. I'm just wondering whether this is a problem with the computer's cruise control setup or whatever...if it is, then to hell with it. Or is this a sign that maybe the computer isn't working properly with the engine? Basically, I just want to know if you think the problem lies in the cruise system itself, or if some other problems could be making it perform like this. Thanks, you guys rock.

Well, somebody mentioned the TPS in that other thread....maybe it's causing the CC problems too??? It makes sense...replace it if it doesn't cost too much.....hell, I should probably replace mine.

is your cruise computer or vaccum operated?
cruise on my 95 blazer is comp, so no surges.
cruise on my 87 regal doesn't work, but has a vaccum diaphram.
cruise on my old 76 bonnie was also vaccum & it woould surge for a while before settling down on a straight-a-way. this is normal for the old vaccum style cruise control.

Well, I haven't checked the system out myself, but it's a 1991 car so I'd imagine it's computer controlled.
