new engine...
Im gettin a new engine cuz i wanna drive my car down to florida, its got 130,000 miles on it and o rings and head gasket are dieing, i got the car for 500 dollars and have never been able to drive it more than about 3 times, i love it but since i need a new engine, what is the best to get!? Im only 16, i cant decide what to get, i wanna still have a loud car but i kinda want it to be fast, right now i have a stock 2.8l thats ready to die. so uh whats a good engine to throw in and how much will it cost?
Hey drop a 3.4 in. I'm 17 now and I'm getting my 3.4 back this friday for a formal school dance. before I take it in today I'm putting a dynomax ultra flow on it to make it sound better when I get it back and when they swap it hes putting a new timing chain on new wires and plugs new water pump all new gaskets and seals and everything. Ask Ked85 about it he did it and has a 10 page documentation on the damn swap. Its a good one though I can wait to start buring of my little 215/65s to put 235/60s on it.
good luck with whatever u dicide to do.

Go to the search part, look for KED85 & the 2.8 - 3.4 swap boogie.
READ IT ALL.
Then read it again.
This is a VERY SIMPLE SWAP
BUT
VERY DETAILED
to make the whole package work correct.
And reliable.
Don't expect a "No Problem" car, tho.
Your car is old
Electronics are old.
Parts wear out due to "new" usage effort.
But, it is extremly worthwhile effort.
Read the entire thread and think before you do this project.
If me?
I'd rent a "new" car for the short time trip!
We currently do that now. Rent cars for long trips.
Reliable, cheap, problem free.
I can't wait to rent the new 2002 Camaro Convertible!

I don't think anyone rents cars to 16 year olds, tho!
Doing a v8 swap is a bigger job than swapping for a 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6. For instance, if you live in a state that has strict emissions laws, you'll need to make sure you use the original intake for your year of Camaro. Ex- you wouldn't be able to throw on a Holley 4bbl carb and expect to pass emissions. You'd have to either throw on fuel injection (requiring the intake, injection, ignition, computer, and engine wiring harness from a donor car), or the correct Rochestor E4ME carb (and intake, ignition, computer and engine wiring harness).
For a V8 swap, you'd also need to get another transmission, because the trannies for the 2.8/3.1/3.4 V6 are smaller, and won't bolt up to the V8. You'd also need a larger radiator eventually.
If you swap in a working 2.8/3.1/3.4, you put your fuel injection onto it. You also use your current trans with it. It's a much easier job. Hey, I just did a web page of a 2.8/2.8 swap I did early this year- visit it at http://www.geocities.com/tomp_3rdgen (and let me know if the website is fast or slow, please- you can sign the guestbook anonymous, I don't care- and that goes for everyone else, too)!
Oh, and cost is something you'd have to call around and find out. Are you doing it yourself? Are you buying a junkyard engine or one that's been pre-rebuilt (Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc)? If you get a junkyard motor, will you rebuilt it, or have it rebuilt? Will you need to rent/buy tools? If you go V8, how much does the junkyard want for the computer and fuel injection and etc?
