2.8L idling probs..

hello. i have an '86 camaro with a 2.8L v-6. my idling went up because my o2 sensor went out. so i replace my o2 sensor and my idle is still above 10. i was wondering how to get it back to below 10. because it use to idle around 6-7.. thanks a lot..

Im not sure but you may have to reset the computer (ECM) by disconnecting your battery cable .
Also maybe a bad throttle position sensor.

i know it's not the tps cause i have recently replaced that. and i have reset the computer but was wondering what to do to have the computer relearn the idle speed?

No kidding! I didn't think a bad oxy sensor would raise the car's idle. Er, wait.. did it? I mean, if the bad oxy sensor raised your idle, a good oxy sensor should've brought it back down...

What voltage did you adjust the TPS for at idle?

Other things- vacuum leaks, incorrect ignition timing, dirty throttle body, dirty IAC pintle & passageway...

i was having the same problem until i learned that for the computer to relearn idle speed you have to turn the ignition on for a few seconds, then off for 10, then back on. that was (and still is for some reason) the only way i can get my car to run actually.

thanks a lot guys. i turned it on for 3 secs, then turned it off for 10 and it relearned the idle and is now idling where it should be.. i thank you again.
