I earned my Fuel Pump Money last night. You can watch me working hard!!

Last night, I was an extra (actually my Wife's 1968 Camaro and Me) on a "N Sync" Video shoot.
We shot in Downtown LA, warehouse district, until 3:30. AM. Temp was a Breezy.......40*-45*!
The video shoot was for their new song, "Girlfriends". The video will premier on MTV this New Years Eve.

I will see if I made the final cut, too!

Got PAID $150 CASH for this 4 PM - 3:30 AM job.

I am the only one with a lit cigarette lighter in the back ground. I tried my best to work myself into many camera shoots.

Because of this "Job"!, I now go with my friend, in his tow truck, retreive my Firebird, bring it to his back yard garage and do the Fuel Pump job on his electric lift.

My Friend earned $300, last night. He brought his 1955 Ford Pick Up (w/350-auto) & his 1957 Belaire 210 SIX CYLINDER, IN-LINE, TWO, ONE BARREL CARBS, SPLIT HEADERS, THREE ON THE TREE!
Even back then, you could hop up a SIX!!
And my Wife's/Son 1968 Camaro is also a 6 Cylinder!
You just gotta love these 6 Cylinder GM engines!
My 1968 Camaro is the ONLY ONE, TOO!

I'll let you know how fast you can do this job on the lift.
What size are these bolts I remove?
I assume:
10mm
13mm
15mm
17mm
Do I release the Torque arm from the tranny or leave attached to the axle, as I lower it?

PS, YES, I FLIRTED WITH MANY OF THE "GIRLFRIENDS" as the cameras were not rolling, for a very long time!
How else you think I stayed warm?
Answer: We chatted in the food lines & cozied up to the outdoor heaters.
These guys, N Sync, were quite decent guys. I am NOT saying, I liked their material, but, they do their job, QUITE WELL.
How cool are they?
One N'Sync guy, I don't know his name, offered to buy one of the cars you'll see in the Video. A $30,000 car, just because he liked it! He did this, right next to me, as I was next to the car, hanging out. I was wondering why the cast and crew were coming our way!
It's a Hot Rodded Purple 1940's Ford, Chopped, with Flames.
I'll let out the Videos Final Scene Secret.
A 1970 'CUDA AAR 340-6 PACK-AUTO, SERENADES THE CROWD (of about 125 people), LESS THAN 8 FEET FROM THIS CUDA, WHILE DOING CONTINUOUS HIGH RPM DOUGHNUTS, FOR ABOUT 1 SOLID MINUTE.
We were finally fogged in!
IN TIRE SMOKE!!
How SOUND echoed off the surrounding building walls!!
I'd say DRIVER/DIRECTOR/IDIOT was damm lucky the "Line Lock" worked as well as it did. It was a way STUPID stunt. Seriously. A 3 Million dollar insurance policy could have been gone in a blink of an eye (remember Dale Earnhardt?).

Watch New Years Eve, on MTV, along with me!!! and see for yourself, how you "work" in LA!!

Dan, the Money Order Check is in the MAIL!! Yeah, it was a long line.
Big Deal, I get my ride back.

Next stop, Dale, is the tranny box!

Because of these two guys, I get two rides back into action!

AND A WAY BIG THANKS TO ALL, I'm waving at ya on MTV!

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!

Hehe, those are the typical GM bolt sizes. 10,13,and 15mm. The straps should use 15mm bolts.....every truck fuel pump that i've done uses 15mm on the straps(Except certain Blazers use 18mm).

You should need a 5/8ths in. flarenut wrench and a 3/4 in open end to get the fuel lines disconnected. Dunno if you have to disconnect the shocks but those are pretty big bolts....possibly 19mm? And I think 10mm for the tank shield.

Dunno what else....I haven't had the pleasure of doing a 3rdgen fuel pump yet. Me and another guy did one on a C5 a while ago.....it actually has 2 fuel tanks and 2 fuel pumps. Huge PITA.

That's cool, Karl! Is this preview before or after the new year starts? I'll look for you at the party I'll be at... I'll have to grab the remote!

Yeah, you can leave the torque arm attached... remember to unhook your stabilizer bar end-links to get the full "travel" from the axle.

From my understanding, the video will be premiered on/during the MTV New Years Eve Special.
Apparently N' Sync will be one of ? Guests or ? Hosting this show.
I have not a clue what time the video showing will occur.
I'll find out, also, while I watch/tape the show.
The one big bummer was that Brittany Spears DID NOT SHOW UP at the video production. I guess she was still recovering from her "Stripper" Birthday present.
Will I "Be Seen" in this Video?
WIll I have my "15 Video Frames or Seconds of world wide fame"?
I have NOT A CLUE if I'll make the final cut.
While the scenes were taped, I saw the video playback camera angles. ALOT can be removed with one good Zoom-Close up of the camera lense.
My Camaro is almost the last car of the "crowd of cars" used for background fill.
I tried to get into a lot of camera angle scenes (from my view point of the shot).
Yet, I was "removed" from some scenes, as I am not the "age demographic" of the "N Sync" crowd.
That's ok, I never said, they were The Beatles! But, these guys were way cool gents. Real nice to their "fans" & the crowds. They enjoy their fame in a good way.
Back to under the car.
2 fuel pumps for a C5?
I imagined that, after doing the engine swap, the size of the bolts gets real common, with "those exceptions".
I only wish I worked two-three nights of this video.
I'd install the 1990 & above 3rd gen tank with the better fuel tank baffles.
Is the 1990 tank pump the same as the one I have?

Oh Wayne, the trick about vehicles in video/movie productions is that your vehicle comes back IN ONE PIECE!
That truly was my first question, when I was approached about my Wife/Son 1968 Camaro being used in this video production.
Second was the level of the insurance policy. That's why I knew of the $3,000,000.00 figure. I was told that answer. These were VERY IMPORTANT details/questions to me
MANY vehicles can be destroyed, with one mad man Directors' decision/delusion.
Care to think of the "CAR"nage in
Hooper?
Bullet?
AND MAYBE some of the ALL TIME "CAR"nage FAVORITES?
BLUES BROTHERS
SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT

Oh yeah, I've been trying to have this happen (my cars in videos/movies/commercials/print ads) since 1984! Almost happened in 1986, but they filmed the movie in Atlantic City, instead of Las Vegas. My 1967 Camaro Convertible was going to be the car, the stars drove the entire movie. Really.
And I'm "in the business" and I live "in town".
Timing, my friend
"Who Ya Know!"
And the "desired product/prop".
I got an "email" question if I knew of anyone with 1950's cars that wanted to make some money by being in a video production. The writer of this "email" is the Producer of the one and ONLY car show I enter, in the entire LA area. He was contacted, becuase he ran a show featuring "these types of cars". I offered I knew of someone (my Friend, that has the 1957 & 1955 cars), but what about my 1968 Camaro?
At first, I was rejected.
Wrong "year".
Next email (because I offered my car pic in the response) told me to join the production and get paid.
After the holidays, I'm gonna try to be "more serious" about getting more work like this, again.
I mean, I do have a desired "prop stable (classic cars)" and me, as an "Extra" in the background.
I can't wait for this Firebird to be done.
I hope I get the same smile on my face, like I got, with the new tranny and that 3.4 powerplant.
Feels real good.
I'm just glad I have only 1-2 gallons of fuel in the tank, now. I do not plan on draining the gas tank, as I think it's quite low, as is.
Why GM couldn't have made this fuel pump, external, I'll never know.

One thing i've noticed is that fuel isn't nearly as dense as water. It helps to have an empty tank but even if it's half full it still won't be very heavy.

But if you have access to a compressed air hose and a long tube you can always syphon the fuel out. *shrug*

Hey, I pulled a tank from an S-10 in a junkyard, truck was in the dirt, no wheels, I had to jack it up a little at a time, keep scrounging up rims and sticking them under the truck, then under my little floorjack, until I had enough space to drop the tank. I jumped up and down on the truck to be sure it was stable, and unbolted the greasy, Georgia clay encrusted thing, and found it was nearly full! Thankfully my wonderful G/F was there to hand me tools.
So even if you have a couple of gallons and its on a lift, it won't be as bad as the one I did (a 13 gallon tank plus a V8 swap in an S-10 do not mix well, therefore I needed that 20, and the $25 price was MUCH better than $150 new)

I HOPE to see me, too!
I wish I knew the editors, so I could sneak a peak.
Back in the 80's I saw the Michael Jackson video "Beat It" a week before it aired.
I used to work with TV Commercial editors.
My jaw was slightly on the floor, after viewing it.
I really didn't know how groundbreaking that video was, that moment.
BUT, Yesterday, my Wife wanted to take me somewhere.
We got stuck in a big crowd (in the 1968 Camaro). I hear guns motorcycles & see crowds. I stop & check it out.
It was a local Town Christmas Parade. We try to avoid the parade route, only to be on a street with all the parade cars coming at us.
Old Vettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Chevelles, Belvederes, old 30's-40's Hot Rods, you name it.
Then the 67-68-69 Camaros came!
What do you do?, JOIN THE PARADE!!!
My Son sat on his first Horse (a spotted Pinto (?) and had a big horse stick his snoot into my Son's face. He had the time of his life, so far!
We were later invited to join the Parade, offically, next year!!
I love old Classic cars, the owners tend to be excellent people!
But, you should have seen, this BEAUTIFUL 1969 Camaro RS/SS HARDTOP, Silver-BLACK VINYL, loaded with options!
We parked next to a Black 1968 & a Blue 1968 Convertible!
I do so love a parade!

Yesterday it was #1 on TRL. let me know if you can't get to a TV and I'll record it and send it to ya The 'cuda doing it's thing was at the very beginning and it didn't last long at all He must have just started 'cause it wasn't very smoky yet, and it was in slow mo, which was cool. The little mustang vs hot rod race was cool at the end when they kicked it sideways

How did you like the girl being sernaded by one of the guys in the front seat of the car.
She was one of my girlfriends that night. I did several scenes with a 1968 Green Camaro all way in the back.
Would ya tape it please?
I'm dying for a copy & viewing!
That race?
They filmed two days. Is it over a bridge? Then that is the 6th Street LA River Bridge.
I was at day that they did the burnout, guys on top of cars dancing & serenades.
Fun fun night!

Out in LA, the Blondes are common as corn stalks.
But, this girl, so sweet a girl. I had a great time chatting with her. She was SO nerverous after she did her scene. I gave her all the encouragement I could. That was a one take scene, no practice.
I told her to go watch herself on the monitor to see how well she did. I watched her performance, she did very well.
Those are the type of girls I like to hang out with, real (come to think of it, I married one like that girl in that scene!), not snow flakes.
The type too pretty & you touch them & they melt.
Let me know how I can help make the delivery out ot LA!!
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

Those cars!
Those 5 cars, literally were just painted hours earlier.
Luckily they dried on theh trailer over to the filming site.
THE ONLY CAR THAT HURT WAS THAT 1968-68 BARACUDA FORMULA "S"!
I mean, that HOOD WAS WORTH SO MUCH!!
ALL THOSE CARS WERE EMPTY SHELLS reinforced with a rollbars that were not "seen".
The 1966 Impala, was an ok car. But, totally worthless stuff someone has out here in LA.
I KNOW IT HURTS TO SEE THAT,
BUT
In the WOODS of my PARENTS HOME IN THE POCONOS
1927+ Model A Ford, 1/2 there (engne dash still there) rest rusted away
1940 Oldsmobile hood
1956 Chevy 210 Post sedan car, minus engine, hood, doors
2-1968+ Chevy trucks with Disc Brake packages on 4-wheel drive,
Also rusting away.
I discovered the 1956 was there since 1970!
Those "discoveries" really hurt!
The N'Sync guys jumping on cars, that was "OK".
Luckily, it wasn't truly valuable sheet metal, promise.
When was the last time you restored a 1950's Hudson & needed parts!

If you happen to run accross a 1932 - 1935 ford or Chevy duce 3 window let me know. I'm looking for one to build into a hot rod. I don't need an egine, I will put mu own in. Rust isn't to big of a deal, I can patch that up. I'm going to do a full frame off build up.
