I paid $14,500 for my '97 back in March with 40k on it...sure, the 30th package is sweet and adds value to the car, but not $5,500 worth...that has to be an auction deal...last auction, I could've gotten a '99 SS for $13,200 with 36k miles...winter brings along cheap F body prices.
I bought my car retail even though I could have gone to an auction and bought one...I figured for the normal 2-2,500 markup on a 4th gen, I could take the car before I bought it and drive it for awhile and have a mechanic inspect it. Way too often you can get robbed blind at an auction...I know, I buy at them.
With my Z, I drove it almost 100 miles, had a shop look at it, had the dealer fix about $700 worth of stuff before I took delivery, AND I got a 60 day warranty...sure, I paid more, but at least I knew I was getting a solid, one owner, no accident car...
Good luck with the '98.
