Increase intake flow?

Ive seen the pizza box)) intakes on here but was trying to think of how to open the intake i have(3.1) up somehow so that the thing isent to restrictive. I know that 270* bend can not be good for flow and the hight isnt too good either. I do have acess to another upper intake off a 2.8.

If i made somesort of spacer that would make that bend less would that help of would making the plentum have more volume actually hurt higher RPM responce?

Any ideas of what i can do? Since im porting the heads/and all the intakes i though why not do something to the intake that would really help speed up the flow in there. And also ive seen flow bench ## on the TB and that seems to be a big! Restriction also.

Re: Increase intake flow?

No ideas?? Something pratical but effective? I wish i could just hook the TB up to the middle plentum and just throw the upper one in the trash!

That design of the intake system GM made for us just says torq but no HP...

Im still hopeing to see if i can find this 3.4 plentum that i remember seeing so I can play with it.

Has anyone shaved the TB?? Such as the bolts that overlap on the (flap) thats a technical term....Seems like that would help its cross section.

Re: Increase intake flow?

I've modified a 3400 TB, I don't recall what the 2.8 one looks like, but things you can do to TB are remove half the shaft if it is on both sides of the TB plate, you can knife edge the TB plate, and yes, you can grind the screws down a little, and grind down the remaining shaft portion as well, all of which I did on my 3400 TB(and no, I never had that TB on my camaro)

Re: Increase intake flow?

Well i didnt find a 3.4 plentum so the plan of action is just to be content with the ported/matched upper, mid, lower intakes i have. Who knows if all this work on the intake, heads, TB will be worth any Hp....oh well i can hope for the best.

I did notice the sharp edges/sides, to where the TB was assembled. When i just ran my finger along the front of the TB i could feel areas where there was a (clif) so i smoothed them down, so that it was a smooth transition from piece to piece. I did not take much meterial off at all just where it had edges.

Today i started to polish up the TB. Is there a better texture to have on the TB?? Smooth as possibe?? Or a swirl design?

Im kindof afraid to try and knife the TB blade. I need to make sure i have a very steady hand.

Re: Increase intake flow?

This was my setup- I have a spare set of spacers: if you want them, PM me. Easy bolt-on mod...

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6...-best-mod.html (HERE IT IS!! The easiest, BEST mod I have EVER done to my intake!!)

Re: Increase intake flow?

Streat leathal. I wish i had those skills to weld aluminum! That looks really nice.
Looks like you opened up the horrible bend from the top to mid intake that kills flow so much. Sweet job.

Re: Increase intake flow?

That honestly isn't my intake, although I did remember when it was posted on here a few years back. I would honestly emulate a Hogans intake if I were to do one for a 2.8/3.1...
