V6 carb rebuild kit ?

I got my sport coupe running again today, and it appears that the accelerator pump is toast. I can stall the engine by flooring the gas pedal. I was wondering where I could find a full carb rebuild kit, or at least who makes a decent kit? Car is a 1983 sport coupe with a 2.8 v6.

Options are limited on the E2SE, but you can find them if you look hard enough.

After digging deeper, this one looks like a better option!

Just curious: how many miles does your car have on it?

98k miles. My car sat for 13 years before I got it, that is why I am rebuilding the carb.

Why would this be moved?.... It is a carburetor related thread...

Most of the time, if they say V6, they say, "Oh, god...one of THEM. We'll just move this WAAAYY over there. Ah, now, I feel better."

LOL! They'd move my thread to the Inline-4 cylinder board...if they had one.

OOOH! Maybe, they'll make a board just for little old me! Oh, boy!

Ha! You know those little Iron Dukes, even though they were horribly under powered, even for the time, were one of the better engines GM ever made. They could take one heck of a beating and still keep going.

My first car (1979 Chevy Monza) had one in it, over 300k on the clock, never been rebuilt. Rings were shot, drank just about as much oil as gas, could barely hit 65mph on level ground (hills, you were lucky to keep 45), but it just kept going. That same car is STILL driving around my home town, and still never been rebuilt, over 400k on it now.

There are a few sites dedicated to Iron Duke mods, I've seen a few dyno pulls of 400HP and 325ft/lb on them. (Not much stock except the block though) Don't expect them to be suitable for street cars in that trim lol.

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

That is one of the reasons I really am starting to dislike this site... I had my thread appropriately placed...

P.S. The 305 was nothing special... Quite a piece of crap to be honest, especially in the pickups. All of the engines of the 80's were gutless turds.

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

Not doing an Iron-Duke, but it's still a 4-cylinder:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...4-3rd-gen.html

Eh, this is still one of the best sites for 3rd-Gen's. If you stick around, you'll grow a very thick skin.

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

I post anything that is V6 related on here since V6's are looked down on the other areas by some. But thats normal. V8 ppl look at me wierd for doing what Ive done to my car. Oh, well.

But still this site is the best 3rd gen site by a long long shot.

Under 100k miles on your car man, thats awsome! Still fresh.

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

My car was my cousin's in high school. It sat for 13 years before I got it, so I have a lot of issues to work out. The trans needs some work/attention after I get it running right.. It has a bad habit of popping out of first gear on downshifts, as soon as I let the clutch out. Hard to tell whats wrong without getting it torn apart...

O'Reilly's has rebuilt kits that is where I got my accelerator pump and gaskets.

Looks like there is an O'Reilly's in Beatrice Nebraska.

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

I do all of my vehicle related business at O'reilly's. I am pretty good friends with the managers that work there. I already have a carb rebuild kit ordered and on the way, thanks for looking all that up though

Re: V6 carb rebuild kit ?

Thanks Danny. I have rebuilt a couple of quadrajet's, holley's, and an edlebrock. It looks to me like the hardest part was getting the damned thing out of the car, and getting all the lines/hoses hooked back up correctly. Stupid CCC.
