Few turbo questions for project89
Got my 2.8 still running strong after two years of purchase no knocking or smoking been reading up on your turbo build and got just a few questions:
Cam options: should i run a "slightly" bigger cam with no intent to change the idle quality just to add a little extra flow or torque (252/252 duration .425/.425 lift with stock rockers) or just upgrade the rockers to a 1.52 or 1.6 ratio.
Intercooler Tubing: Can the tubing be re routed through the the framing behind the headlights to avoid removing the charcoal canister?
Injectors: If i use injectors from a 305 or 350, performance fuel pump and no ECM tune do i still need a FMU?
Welding: Will a stick welder do the job and if so how many amps do i need so the metal doesn't splatter so much.

Re: Few turbo questions for project89
Well im not dave, but ill shed some light on what he and others tought me...
About the cam. If your at all considering a bigger cam, go for it!! Dave had a custom 268/272 cam on one of his cars, I have a 260 delta cam on mine. They are both good over all cams. A cam will definitly help!
Intercooler piping. Anyway you can run the IC piping will work. I tried to find a way to route mine the way your thinking of, but didnt see a way without either taking off the front clip to do so, or literly cutting out some of the body metal to get the piping to fit. I also did what dave did and got rid of the purge can, and cut a 3" hole out for the piping to go to the IC.
About the injectors. IICR, I think the injectors off 305/350 might only be 19-21lbs injectors, in that case that will not be enough fuel to keep you happy as believe me once you feel the boost youll want more and more of it, its addictive. And I would think a RRFPR would still be needed if your going that route for tuning. I personally am tuning the ECM on my car as I think its the safest way. I have 28lbs injectors and a high volume fuel pump that is probly only gonna support my car till I hit 270 or so Hp before those injectors are maxed out. I know you can just jack up the fuel pressure to make the injectors act larger but I also know that if you dont have a good fuel pump and such that the stock stuff will take a beating after so long.
Welding. I tried to stick weld some of my piping, I did not like it. Im sure if your really good at it then it would work out but you will need to really clean the metal good and really turn the amps down so that your dont burn hole into the metal or leave melted metal inside the pipe although you probly would not see it after you made the weld.
If you can use a mig welder either with argon/co gas or a influx wire, definitly use that as I did and Im not expert at welding, and my project turned out well with no leaks.
Hope this helps a little, im sure dave will chime in and give better advice as he has delt with with MAF and many more turbo builds then I could dream of.

Re: Few turbo questions for project89
u can run the intercooler pipes anywere u can find or make room.
a set of 21# injectors will run find without and ecm tune on the 2.8 maf system, but u really want to tune it leaves so much power on the table untuned
pilsbury has the 252/252 cam in his 3.4 makes alot of power down low.with a small t3 turbo and the 252 cam the car would have massive tq down low but fall on its face in the upper rpms.
in other words awsome street driving car, but not good for racing at the track
