no knock sensor wire
I've got it running, but never could find the dark blue knock sensor wire.I set the timing and it runs ok,but not grate.take it for a short drive and it runs ruffer the farther I go.Recheck timing and it's moved to almost 20 from 8. dizzy is tight and it's realy only doing it after it's warmed up.Now keep in mined I don't have the knock sensor hooked up.Is there any way to bypass that or is it bypassed buy not being hooked up?I'm not sure all the vac lines on on right either. There was no engine in this car when i got it. any coments?

Re: no knock sensor wire
The knock sensor isn't much of an issue, as long as your engine isn't detonating, no harm will come of not having it, and many older cars don't have one(the 2.8s don't for example) by being unplugged it is bypassed, yes. The only results will be a check engine light, and of course if your engine were detonating it would be unable to retard ignition timing. And a normal running engine isn't going to detonate, I would still try to hunt down the wire though especially since your timing is moving around so much, which could potentially cause detonation, you may have to pull conduit back to find the lead-also you are sure you have one right? I myself don't know if the 3.1s got them or not.
As for the dizzy, it sounds to me like you aren't actually getting that bolt tight, also you have to unplug the EST when you set base timing. That bolt can be a PITA and has an annoying habit of seeming like its in, and then promptly toppling over, so make sure it is indeed threaded in, and sufficiently tight.

Re: no knock sensor wire
thanks for your coment.I got a 3.1 block in where a 2.8 was.still got the 2.8 stuff on it.Ecm is all stock stuff. The repair manuel wireing info shows a knock sensor lead for this modle year.So I just asume it has one.I've pulled the shell off the wires and looked inside for the dark blue in case it got broke off by on of the PO.no luck.I never unhooked the EST though when setting the timeing.I'll look it up and see where it is.I for sure got the dizzy bolted down good. They make a special tool for them cost about 10$ or less at auto zone.Part of the trouble could be injector related.thanks again.
