What is wrong with my rs' fuel system?

O.K! I have a 1992 rs. I replaced the fuel pump by cutting out a trap door in the trunk. I also replaced the fuel filter. When I turn the key I hear the fuel pump kick on for a couple of seconds BUT, no fuel is pumped through the lines. I also replaced the fuel pump relay. What else could the problem be? The sending unit?

If you didn't do anything wrong you may need to open up all the lines and blow through to check for some sort of blockage.

Re: What is wrong with my rs' fuel system?

by fuel filter, you do mean the little canister inline under the rear driver seat right? not just the sock on the FP?

You now have to disconnect the fp under the rear seat and turn the key without being under there and see if fuel sprays out, if it does, diagnose why it doesn't make it through the line up to the engine by disconnecting the engine bay fuel lines. if it doesn't come out tehre, disconnect the other side of the fuel filter, to see if the fuel filter is defective and not letting it go through, and from there, if it doesn't spray out there, go up to the fuel pump assembly itself and go ahead and see if the fuel comes out of the output on the assembly. basically take it all the way back to the sending unit to see where it starts spraying so you can diag which line it is. when you hacked your lines, you didn't hook the return line up the output side did you? Been a while since i've seen the top of the fuel tank, not sure how easy that is to mix up or if it is even possible.

Re: What is wrong with my rs' fuel system?

I diconnected the lines where I hacked them right by the sending unit and no fuel comes out when I turn the key. I replaced the fuel filter under the car as well as the fuel sock and pump in the tank. I just located the fp fuse and its not that. and like I said I replaced the relay. It has to be the sending unit right?

just a question, no inference made by the statement.

when you did the fuel pump, i'm guessing it came with a new rubber fuel line for the sending unit connection, did you use hose clamps on that? could have blown off if not tight or something silly inside the tank/sending unit.

Re: What is wrong with my rs' fuel system?

But if the pump stops running it should mean it's built up pressure. Got to start disconnecting.

Pump wires connected in reverse? Would make the pump, pump backwards.
