3.1L computer question

I will be swapping my 2.8L out of my 86 firebird and will be putting in a 3.1 out of a 92 camaro. Is it possible to swap the computers as well as the engines to have the 3.1L computer run the engine or will I have to take the necessary parts off of my 2.8L so that my old computer can run the 3.1L engine?

Re: 3.1L computer question

In order to do that, the best way is to swap the entire engine harness because you'd be missing so many connections in the stock harness for important things like the knock sensor and MAP sensor. Also, you may need to either rewire or replace the alternator (I think the SI alternator was still in use in 86, could be wrong, and the CS130 is wired differently), and you would need to figure out some way of getting the wiper motor to work (wiper wiring is in the engine harness on the 2.8 and the front light harness on the 3.1). Not to mention you would need to find a way to either put in a VATS box, make a module that would duplicate the VATS signal to the ECM, or have a chip burned to be put into the MEMCAL to delete VATS so the engine will run.

Best way is to just toss the engine in as-is but with the 2.8 intake, complete from the parts that sit on the block and heads all the way up.
