IAC adjustment/reset

Book says adjust for 1 1/8 length from gasket surface, install, start for 5 seconds, and shut off.

I tried this but it still runs up to 2000 rpm on startup, slowly settling to 950ish.

I pulled the point out a tad further, and it's a little better, but the next startup is high again.

Are there other ways to adjust this thing?

*found a more in-depth article on adjusting idle speed.
broken link nevermind

I'll try that next.

Put a wire in the ALDL as though you're pulling codes (A to B), turn the key on for 30 seconds, pull the connector off of the IAC, turn key off. Reset ECM by disconnecting the battery. Adjust the base air as necessary when you start the engine and get it to operating temp, and plug the IAC back in.

Re: IAC adjustment/reset

I'll try again, but after doing that, It now starts and idles high (slightly less than before), will idle high after driving when I slow down or put it in neutral, but if I come to a stop and put it in drive or reverse with my foot on the brake, it forces the idle down to 5-600 and stays there even after I put it back in N or P. After driving it's high again (1000ish). *make that 11-1200 Also, hot starts are still high.

Jump A&B
key on 30 seconds
pull IAC connector
key off
remove jumper
disconnect batter
recconect battery
Adjust base air (had it about 400-450 in drive)
TPS was at .54 at idle
plugged IAC back in.

I'll try again I guess, if it doesn't work I'll buy a new one or try one from the junkyard really quick.

It used to work fine until I took it out and cleaned it.
