I have a 87 camaro with one hell of a beat up 2.8, found very fine metal in the oil and can hear what sounds like wrist pin slap which would be expected for an engine with over 200,000 miles on it. I would like to put in a 3.4 but have no clue where to find one within my price range. Everything I find is over a grand even other 2.8s. Its my only car and can use some help fast.

 

where are you located? there's a guy on the board here that's offering a running 3.4 for a very good price, but he's in Michigan

 

also check the v6 firebird/comero sites for 4th gens swapping out

 

ive talked to him, im in california, he mentioned getting the engines at a junk yard, would be nice to get a remand 3.4 or 2.8 just so i can swap it with mines drive my car within a week

 

For like $800 you can buy a reman. 2.8

Hawksthirdgen has engines for 300 and up..prolly $200 for shipping. They sell 2.8's, 305, etc.

 

There's a half dozen 3.4s in a local yard, all $225. Sure, it's a risk. Just try to find one that was rear-ended.

 

I was that guy.... I sold the 3.4 lol. I would definitely recommend getting a 3.4 over a 2.8. If you're gonna buy a used or even remanned engine, just get a 3.4 long block. You will not regret it!
