Re: Emessions Removal

Depends on where you are going to register the car.
Technically...removing any of it is a federal crime. Realistically unless a cop is a ***** you won't be asked to pop your hood. Some states dont do emissions tests on third gens, others do.
With that being said... ditch the smog pump and tubing. Get a shorter belt. You can either straight pipe the cat or gut it. As for the egr valve, if you remove it...you'll need to tune it out of the ECM.
Pacesetter makes non-smog headers. ( get them from summit or jegs)
Go with a 180° thermostat NOT a 160° ( thanks for the article again gum by)
The 160° won't allow the engine to get to operating temp. Relocate the iat closer to the air filter.
There are tons of things that can be done. I haven't even scratched the surface.

Look up members Gumby, fasteddi, project 3.4 . They are just a few that know ALOT about these little engines.

Re: Emessions Removal

160* stat will not harm anything , it will cause more emission out the tail pipe though

i ran my car with a 160* stat for years before i went turbo no decrease in milage no harm, and it ran better

once i went turbo i removed the thermostat all together and installed a restrictor instead

Re: Emessions Removal

Thanks for the advice, I am hoping to drop a 350 in it soon. Also I ran my check engine codes, what is EGR failure? I know it has something to do with vaccum lines. Also MAP. Codes 32 and 34. I am also smelling gasoline.
