Re: Hesitating and surging problem help please

I had a similar issue with my son's 88 2.8. Ran ok when we first got it but went down hill the more work we did on it. It ran the worst after re replaced the injectors and all the plenum and intake gasktes. After a lot of head scratching, we discovered we had a plugged cat and muffler. The car would start up and idle fine cold, but once it warmed up a bit had a bad surge in the idle and would pop and backfire in the intake. We removed the O2 sensor to test it and let it breath a little more and it got a lot better so new exhaust went on. After that we did the idle/minimum air adjustment and it runs like a champ.

No problem. I have gotten a ton of help from other guys here. Just trying to pay it forward. I hope it helps. Try removing the o2 sensor and see how it idles. Get a new one and a thread chaser before you start ecsuse there is a fair chance you will have trouble Removing the old one. Cheap part to replace. Good luck.

If you're getting a knock sensor error then replace the knock sensor. When I first got my car, out of nowhere i started losing power and it threw the knock sensor code. If its not the knock sensor or the cat like copyfixr suggested I would also check the coolant temp sensor.
