Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

For a long time now i was always smelling gas whenever i would get home and could never find out where. Well with some luck 1 day i finaly found a mist/stream of gas shooting out of the top of my engine from one of the gas hoses that goes to the engine (the 2 hoses towards the front of the engine coming out from the metal fuel line)

So my question is where can i find this V6 TPI rubber fuel line hoses bran new so i can replace them? I'm having a hard time finding new ones, ebay only has old used ones that look worse then mine.

At the moment i have electric tape holding the gas in for as long as it will last but i start a job in a couple of weeks and must drive 30 miles every day to work then same distance to get back home again.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

I would see if you can get them on rock auto. Other than that you're looking at used hoses or you could build your own braided stainless hoses. There should be fittings available that will plug into your hard lines and fuel rail.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Is the line leaking before the fuel pressure regulator?

Theres rubber fuel lines on there?? I wasent aware that there was. I assumed they were always metal unless someone already replaced the lines. If you must use rubber fuel line then go to napa or a place like that and ask for some. Also if you replace it flare the metal line and slip on the rubber hose(should be really tight) then get some t-hose clamps. They are sometimes called high pressure or fuel line clamps. Use 2 of them on each connection. Im using fuel line for about 1ft on my fuel system and thats how I have it hooked up. You want the best connection possible since its gas for one, and theres a good 40+psi of pressure behind it. The clamps look like this.

You want the clamp that is on the left side of this picture....

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

I believe the OP is referring to the flexible fuel lines that run from the body's metal lines to the engine's and these are most certainly factory installed and use no hoseclamps of any kind .

If you look at the air conditioning compressor in my photos the lines in question are the small two that can be seen positioned around the compressor .

I'd be happy to see a lead an a brand new set premade with the proper threaded fittings as well

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Ahh those ones.

Those are tricky to find unless your at a J/Y I have a complete spare fuel rail and system up to the full metal line to the rear. But it would cost alot less to just retro fit your own set up then go searching and paying for stock stuff. As long it can hold the PSI and flow the same(roughly) your fine.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Like I mentioned, if you want new lines, braided stainless lines can be made with fittings to connect to both the hard lines and the fuel rail. They can get expensive though.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

I'd go with what fasteddi suggested first. Rubber fuel injection line and the special clamps to go with it. I think there's a flared metal line on either side of that hose with a threaded nut just like a brake line. You can slide the nuts back along the line, slip the new hose over the flared ends of the tube, secure with a couple of the injection line clamps, and done.

Yep , If there are no new ones available , Fast eddie's suggestion will surely work fine . I once had a 61 caddy's airconditioning hose made up at an HVAC shop cause it was unobtainium elsewhere and paid almost a couple of hundred bux (this was about 25 years ago and i'm scared to think what that hose would have cost today) ...

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

You will have to cut the factory crimps off of the fittings. You can do this using a hack saw. Be careful not to cut into the fitting or you may end up with a leak.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

2 sets of tpi siganaw to an adapter fittings will allow u to screw one on each end were the ruber hose connected the 2 halfs of the hard lines from there u can use steel braided hose and an fittings

would cost about 40 bucks for the adapter fittings and another 40-50 bucks for 4 hose ends and the braided hose

fasteddis suggestion is also fine and alot cheaper

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Project is right. I used braided stainless hoses on mine. The adapter fittings are available from Russell among others.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Thanks guys, all great alternatives that i will definately use in the future. I bought a 88 iroc hose from ebay with the same fittings and same size of my hose in question.

Its old and used but will do the trick for now.

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

My car has been a work in progress. When I first did the build in 98, I used clamps and high pressure hose. Since then, as I revisit each part of the car, I make upgrades to bring the car closer to perfection. Russell braided fuel lines is just part of this progress.

I liked your idea . A lot !!! ..... So , with the slight substitution of a dremmel tool in place of the hacksaw here's what I came up with ;

I went to the local autoparts place and bought both 3/8 and 5/16 universal fuel injection hose for about $7 each . I also bought the proper FI hose hoseclamps for a couple of dollars each package of 4 . So for under $20 I made up my own set of pressure and return hoses and am happy with the results . The clamps did take a bit of force to get apart even after slicing through them with the cut off wheel , but thats cause I didn't cut them 100% through so as to not mess up the fitting I wanted to reuse .

Ill now throw some pictures into this thread for anyone who wants to see one guy's solution to this

Re: Fuel Line Hose (where to buy new?)

Thank You for the compliments guys , and right back at ya with a Thank You for giving me the idea to do this . I'll admit , the pressure hose was weepin a little bit for a while and I wasn't quite sure the best way to go once I discovered these are no longer available as brand new premade units . Because of both Fast eddie's and ASE doc's suggestions a quite workable solution was found . I hope it helps anyone who is in the same situation and finds this thread in a search .

I'll end with a close up of where the original hose was leaking , its the small slit looking cracks that run across the hose . The lengthwise cut at the end is where I sliced the hose with a razor to aid in removal from the fitting once the clamp was cut off .....
