Misfire, backfire, loss of power problem solved

I have been for the last week trying to figure out why I have this loss of power (the car originally came with) I gave her a tune up oil change when I first got her and took the plug wires off and reassembled them just how they were in the first place. Well I should have looked at the actual firing order of the 2.8

I have been thinking its my CAT plugged or bad injectors or fuel pump.. anything to clog the exhaust or fuel. Well I am trying to think outside the box. And it hits me. The firing order.....

well yep the firing order was all jacked up. Got it back to specs and she runs fantastic. Its like night and day on the test drive. I couldnt shift smoothly from 25-35 it would very slowly get me there and rev the rpms up way to high.

Just makes me wonder how long the PO was driving it like this. The 2 and the 6 wire were switched. haha glad I found this before dropping the money for fuel injectors.

Just posting incase anyone may need help in the Bogging, loss of power, backfire questions.

Re: Misfire, backfire, loss of power problem solved

I feel your pain. I just did an oil change & tune up (plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap) on my daughter's car before she set out on trip to NY. I changed the spark plug wires one at a time to make sure I didn't mix them. Fired up the car and it just barely ran like crap. It was late and getting dark. So I let it set for the night.

Next day, checked the Internet for the firing order. Then checked the spark plug wires. Sure enough, the last 2 wires I changed were wrong. Don't know how I could possibly mix up the wires when I only changed one at a time. I called a mechanic friend to tell him what a dumbass I'd been. He assured me that he'd done the same thing.

At least in your case you can blame the PO for being a dumbass. Glad you found the problem was a simple, no cost fix.
