Idling issues

This is an 89 v6 2.8L Camaro...

When I'm at a light or just idling, I sometimes have this issue where the car will lightly accelerate from about 500-1000 rpm. Obviously, I just keep the brake depressed, but the issue is pretty intermittent. What could be causing this? I realize that there may not be a simple answer, so I'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction of what to look for.

On a possibly related note, there seems to be very little power in the first two gears. The acceleration is terrible, and I have no idea where to start. What could be causing this, and are the issues related?

Thanks!

Re: Idling issues

During acceleration does the engine seem like its skipping or really sluggish in the first two gears? could be a vaccum leak until the engine is running in a higher rpm pulling less vaccum sucking less air. Would start there
