How many fuel pressure regulators are there on the 2.8L MPFI motor?
The car sputters at first when revving and boggs down from a dead stop when I press heavy on the accelerator. I have been told that the most likely reason is a bad fuel pressure regulator, I just replaced the fuel pump, sending unit, strainer and fuel filter.

Before assuming it's the FPR, you should check the fuel pressure first. The pressure in my 3.1 MPFI should be between 37 - 47 lbs. and hold that pressure for at least 20 minutes after turning off the engine. Not sure if that is the same for a 2.8L. I had similar problems and bought a pressure gauge, but you may be able to borrow one. Reminds me, I loaned mine to my mechanic buddy. If he has it too long, he'll think it's his. LOL
If the pressure is low or can't hold pressure, it may be the FPR or injectors. My FRP was bad, but also found a leaking injector.
