Fuel pressure regulator advice needed
Hey everyone. so i'm having intermittent hesitation on acceleration, and also when im crusing at 40-50 mph in drive or overdrive with steady gas applied the car kind of sputters. kind of goes wub wub wub wub. I was checking the line going to my fuel pressure regulator and it smells like gas. There is no wetness or dripping though, just a fuel odor. Is this a sign of the fuel pressure regulator going bad??
ps- there are no vaccum leaks, and fuel filter is only a couple months old. also the last time i checked my fuel pressure it was around 37

I did a search and found a video that showed how to tell whether the diaphragm on the FPR is leaking. I tried it on my V6 3.1 and found one of my problems. Start the engine and then pull the vacuum line going to the FPR. You may have to wait up to a minute or so. If your diaphragm is leaking it will start leaking fuel from the FPR. It took 20 seconds for mine to start to leak. The other problem I had was that two of my fuel injectors had gone bad and were putting out less then 10 ohms. Good luck.

sweet, ill try that. and if the fpr checks out i guess its time to ohm the injectors. were you having symptoms similar to mine?

Re: Fuel pressure regulator advice needed
so i pulled my FPR line with the car running, let it sit for like 4 minutes and no leaking at all, it stayed dry. so im going to test my injectors when i get the time. is there any way to check the injectors without pulling the upper intake off? i just installed new gaskets on there like a month ago i was hoping there was a workaround.

I seemed to ignored the symptoms until the FPR diaphragm failed. IIRC you shouldn't smell gas on the vacuum line to the FPR unless it is leaking. May be the early signs. By the time I got to mine I could see fumes coming out of my powerbulge hood through the intake when I started the Firebird up. You may have to do a search on ohming the injectors with the plenum on. I ohmed mine when I changed out my FPR. Good luck.

Re: Fuel pressure regulator advice needed
Yea some articles ive seen are talking about taking a dremel to the plenum to open up more space to get to the injector, im not going to risk messing up my plenum doing any crap like that. I'll just pull my plenum next time I have the chance and do things the right way. I already have a multimeter so im ready to go. Thanks for your input ill post my ohm test results
