I have no idea how good they are but here is one for a 3.1L such as mine.

Just make sure you get one that says... no notches, and is for a engine with a distributor.

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
thanks a million for helping me with the crank issue...and I'll be sure to have the heads milled like you said....well everything should be here within the next 2 weeks I hope the cam and pistons are coming straight from the manufacturer so they'll take a while but once it's all said and done....

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
another question because my buddy and his dad said that they would build the motor for me so I need to know if anybody can give me the part number or a link to the piston rings that I need for the .040 pistons I'm getting...I know I can have the shop get them for me but if I can get them then that'll be good

has anyone figure out how far to mill the block and heads to increase compression to 8.9:1 or 9:1 and anything on the piston rings?

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
Im away from the computer and hate looking stuff up on the phone but if you just go to summitracing.com and pop in the engine size and so on. You can filter out the rings for the .040 bore you want. Then pick the pistons rings from there. I would recommend moly rings over stock replacements. You will know what im talking about once you see the options for rings.

yeah my bad...the retainers! but yeah it's coming along...going to rip the motor out probably next week and finish the rest of the tear down, cylinder number 5 is all bad, piston ring scraped it when it over heated glad I'm having it bored over

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
Cool.
Im taking my block to the shop finally on friday afterwork to get mine fixed up for my new pistons and such. Im pretty excited to finally start piecing it back together. Im not sure how much mine will be bored out. As little as it needs. I have to have them take some measurements on it and see how outta wack it is, then order the right pistons and match the bore to the pistons.

what is it bored out to right now, if not then how far are you thinking of taking it? and did something happen to it for you to put the block in the shop?

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
i have to put new pistons in it because im using aluminum heads off a gen 3 60 degree v6. Nothings wrong with the block. But i have to hone it regardless so that i can properly seat the new piston rings. So its up to the shop as far as, how far it will be bored out. If the cylinders are ok then mabey .010 or if its oblong and like a egg shape then mabey .030-..040 over

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
oh ok I see..yeah I have wait for my rings before I take the block and heads in to be bored and ported out with a valve job, 3 angle of course. but I need the rings so they can exact match the bore with the pistons and rings

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
What is the shop charging you to bore the block and such? Im in ohio so it may be more but im getting it bored, honed, the new pistons hung on the rods, the block cleaned and dipped, new cam bearings, and new freeze plugs put in for 250 bucks. Not sure if that's expensive but its sure something i cant do and have no issue on paying for it to be done right. Im taking it to the shop tommorow. Ive been excited for the last few days... just like a little kid.

Re: 2.8 rebuild bore.40 and stroke?
that's what they're going to do to my block as well...When I called a couple weeks ago I believe the guy said about 150 for the block and pistons but it'll be more then that because of the heads
