car idles but back fires out the uper penlum

Car: 00 benz and 83 iron bird
Engine: kompressor and 350 to 388
Transmission: outlaw 4 spdtns
car idles but back fires out the uper penlum

my friends 91 3.1 bird is having a issue where at idle has all 6 cyl but it back fires out the upper penlum not a full blown backfire but enuf to hear a slight pop
it is affecting the power drastically under hard throttle it gets worse

any ideas ?
personally I think the timing threw itself off or is advanced a bit too much

ANY HELP PLEAAAZZZEEE ive fixed this car 3 times already its all he has to drive
ps just put a new injector on the 6 cyl and new plugs and wires all round
distributer cap and rotor is clean inside

check the firing order on the plug wires sounds like u mixed them up

well somehow top dead on cyl 1 changed now cyl 2 has the first spark on the distributer and clues as to why this happened ? im assuming the teeth on the distributer is giving or the timing chain poped one notch

the you turn the crank to 0degrees cyl 1 is still top dead but cyl 2 has the first fire ?

move all the plug wires counter clockwise one spot on the distibutor then reset the base timing

will it be alright like that if the teeth on the distributor moved ?
I just want to make shure its not my car and I like to do mechanical things the right way the first time (I haven't played with distributers and chain gearing really at all like this im used to ecu controlled firing)

unless the teeth are missing on the dist gear, im pretty sure the teeth haven't moved on the dist, kinda hard to do riding on the back of the cam gear, unless those teeth are gone, highly unlikely, move wires like project89 mentioned and you should be spot on after resetting timing

well I moved it to top dead on cyl one pulled the dis cap off looked where the needle was sitting (flat left ) moved wires accordingly and it still backfired im so at a loss atm
