So I had a "mechanic" replace my 2.8L V6 a little over a year ago. It took that "mechanic" almost a year to do it. That's a long story we can get into later. However, the car has been running horribly ever since they installed the engine. I had another "mechanic" look at it and they found some things wrong or so they said. They replaced the computer, EGR valve, and didn't find any vacuum leaks. Even after these repairs the car still ran like it was choking everywhere it went. I'd drive it on the highway and it ran like a champ. However, whenever I did city driving it wanted to die at every light. So after dealing with this for a year and changing everything from plugs, wires, distributor, ignition coil, and ignition module I thought I would try the EGR valve. I thought what the heck? Let's check the valve and see if the "mechanic" replaced it with a faulty one. Take a look at the photo and tell me what you see. Can you believe someone installed the valve BACKWARDS??? Are there any honest, intelligent, and hard working mechanics anymore? I'm resigned to just do everything myself from now on.

Was the idiot blind too?
Last I checked you can't install the actual EGR backwards, unless you modify it. Did this EGR not have a portion that extended beyond the mounting flange, that fit into the manifold adapter?

The aftermarket EGR valves allow you to rotate the top so you can position the vacuum port correctly. These mechanics apparently did not know that so they installed the valve backwards. The instructions on the new valve said to turn the top clockwise to line up with the vacuum port. Definitely frustrating and I have two mechanics I will never go to again.Originally Posted by Six_Shooter
