it's an 88 V6. car randomly bogs and stalls sometimes. it does this both when cold and at operating temperature. there is currently no CEL being thrown. I think it may be more of an electrical problem since the CEL flashes on and off when the car bogs and the gauges go all out of wack.

any suggestions?

Not sure on our old ecms, but I know on newer cars when the service light flashes on and off its a misfire which could definitly cause a bog situation.

 

Sounds like it could be any number of things. Bad sparkplug wires arcing to ground, faulty icm. My icm when it started to go made the tach jump and 1 aftermarket gauge turn off, nothing happened to another aftermarket gauge that was connected to the same power and ground as the first.

In any case it sounds like its in the ignition somewhere, could be mistaken though, Sounds like misfiring

 

the ignition coil,plugs,and wires were changed less than a thousand miles ago. it runs normal some days and wants to bog really bad some days. I normally do wot throttle to keep it from dying. there was one point where the car just shut off while driving.

when it bogs, the cel comes on then it shuts off when it's done bogging. I was going a little over board when saying "it flashes."
