So I have a 1986 v6 2.8 L camaro that has been having a problem starting on cold starts unless I depress the gas pedal if I don't it stalls out its fuel injected and the service devine light comes on once its started, the car runs fine after it warms up but it does feel like its been using more gas and has less power. I've checked the iac valve and its fine do you guys have any ideas. I also just had a new water pump put in but I doubt they have anything to do with each other

Re: Car keeps stalling on cold starts
First post so welcome to TGO. There is a search function that will help you find answers to most questions. You'll need to start checking a lot more than the IAC to figure out what's wrong. Is the engine all original? What's been modified/replaced etc.? First get the codes. There are threads on how to do it if you don't have a code reader. Likely you should check the injectors. If they are original there's a reasonable chance they'll need replacing.

The car has a new fuel pump, radiator, water pump,
I took it down to jiffy lube and pep boys and they said that my car is to old to have a code reader

Do a search on here to find the instructions on how to read the codes using the check engine light. You jump a couple of terminals on the ALDL (computer output) plug and by counting the light flashes you can read the codes. If you're going to do some of the diagnostics yourself you should get a workshop manual (Chilton is OK). Take a good look at the engine. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks. EGR valve isn't stuck open. Electrical connections are good. Plugs, wires distributor. If the injectors are original though chances are you'll need to replace them. But do the easy stuff first.
