89 Camaro 2.8 maf issues?

Hi, My wife has a 89 Camaro 2.8 v6.She is the original owner. At times when started the CEL comes on. Shut the car off and start again the light goes off. The car has been doing this for several months but now it is starting to stumble when accelerating. Checked the codes with a paper clip and the only code is a code 34 for the MAF. I have tried checking the maf with a voltmeter. It is a 3 wire maf and there is 12v at the positive wire and the ground wire is good. Checked the signal wire unhooked from the maf and it is 5 volts. With the maf connected and car running the signal wire shows 2.5volts and doesn't increase when accelerating. Is this the correct way to test this Maf? The gm part # is 25007557 on the maf. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Years ago I had and 89 IROC and CEL was on and the code indicated the MAF was going out. Someone told me to lightly tap the MAF with a screwdriver handle while the engine was idling and if the engine stumbled then the MAF was bad. I tried this and mine stumbled so I replaced the MAF and CEL went out and it was fine after that.
