I seriously would not subject my car to that trip.
To long. I once did that to my 85 Blazer.
LA to Lake Havasu, AZ.
Made it BUT, seriously down on power over the hills and on the way back, it was overheating. I think that's when I took out the head gasket. Drove back in summer heat (and I have functional AC, too) with the heater on full hot & full blast to help it from overheating.
IT was never the same after that trip.
To many miles, to much endurance wear on what is left of a local town car.

I really cannot promise Sat or Sun.
I'm packing ready to go back and I gotta deal with Family stuff.
Looks like it'll have to wait until after in Jan.
Really sorry about the timing.
Thurs was only real chance.
Forgot guys yard is closed on Sun.
Closes Sat at Noon-1.
May not even be open as it's before Xmas.
Why not Tomorrow?

I wouldn't make the trip. 194000 is alot of miles your piston probably go side to side, and not up and down anymore lol
No actually I wouldn't worry about the engine, I just think other things would go like the fuel pump.

From personally dealing with Fuel pumps, lately, they only go on car start up. Not while driving.
Anyone else say different?

One time when I was driving my parents dodge caravan it died on the way home from dropping my parents off! I was in the left turn lane and the van just died! I couldn't get the van started and of course (since I wasn't a hot woman) nobody helped me to push the van into some parking lot......uphill!!! I'm still mad about that day.
Not dissing anything you're saying ked; I bet most damage to a fuel pump is caused at start up though.

That is so funny.
Not you being stranded.
The ONLY other example I knew of a fuel pump failing on start up, was my Parents Dodge Minivan!
I'll tell ya if your fuel pump is installed by the cheating method (leaving out certain of the four new parts needed-pump, stabilizer, fuel sock and fuel filter), the pump may wear out quicker, again.
Replacing fuel pumps in these cars sucks.

why not just rent a car? probly will have more power, better interior, better fuel milage, & a better ability to open 'er up with out worrying about breaking your car.

If it was me I wouldnt worry about it.
My grandparents make the trip from BC to Yuma, Arizona in their '89 Aerostar and dont have a problem, & lets face it the Aerostar engines weren't that reliable when they were new.

Flat out, if you don't trust the car to make the trip, don't make it. Right now I drive an 87 Buick Century four banger with 185,000 on it, and I drove it on two 1500+(round trip) vacations this summer with no problems, but I know the car and I trust it. If you have even a little doubt that your car isn't going to make it, then why risk it? Is it really worth it to be stranded?

If you doubt you will make it don't do it. RENT a econo box for 9.99 a day on special from Enterprise.
If you are going for it, just have a jug of water and some snacks and a flare and you'll be fine..
