Recommend me a cam?
Welp, not sure how it happened, but cylinders 1 and 4 have taken a dump. Both apparently have bad rings... Compression PSI should be about 220 and they're at 65 each... Bad blowby into the crankcase and spitting oil out the dipstick and the PCV system. And I've had enough with this short block, between this and the starter mount BS, I'm done.
Looking to get another short block and having it rebuilt...
King main and rod bearings
New cam bearings
Recommend me rings? Don't exactly know the difference between plain, moly, and chrome rings here... Don't have too many options on brand there though...
Now for the kicker. If I'm going to have all this work done on another block, I'm getting a new cam too. Was going to anyways, but this speeds up the process now.
I know there isn't much in the way of an aftermarket for the 60* V6. Anyone who knows a bit have an idea what I should be looking at for a cam? The 12353919 (and Crane equivalent) looks somewhat appealing... I tire of the stock sounding exhaust note...
And the MegaSquirt's going to get crap-canned too. Tired of resetting it nearly every time I start the engine to get the parameters in line and the idle speed crap I've been dealing with from the start... Probably going to go with the FAST EZ-EFI Multiport kit.

Re: Recommend me a cam?
Have you looked into a custom grind cam? I know the Delta 260 or 272 will probably be thrown out as suggestions as well. If you're sticking some pretty good coin into this engine, it would probably be a good idea to get a cam that will exactly match your needs/goals/build. Much better than something that is in the ballpark of matching your top end setup.

What drdave said. Also I'm just going to throw out the fact that Delta quoted me $99 for a brand new custom ground 270/284 grind cam for my turbo set up. Or I could send in a core and only pay $79. Way less than anything from crane cams off of summit racing.

Re: Recommend me a cam?
Project, you won't want my MS. The serial port connector is gone. Replaced it once because the original broke due to stress due to mounting location under my 93 dash. Went to replace it again due to same and ended up having to remove it and hardwire serial cable to connections on the bottom of the board (at least 3 of the solder holes physically came out of the board and were useless). Can't prove it will work continuously. It works now but it may not in the future. It's got the connector board in it that connects the MSII main board to the factory 302/165 harness. It's got the idle speed control issue, seems to randomly lose calibration whenever it feels like it and has to go through a HARD reset (format and recover code and calibration), seems to have a cross feeding issue between MAP, TPS, and the knock sense (which doesn't work, of course), and is just a complete general PITA.
As for the cam, the biggest hurdle I have with it is the fact that I will need different valve springs. And as such, with the 3100 heads, I will more than likely have to have the spring seats machined. I have evaluated the Delta 260H cam and several others in my dyno program and the closest thing I can find off the shelf to what I'm looking for is the Crane 12353919 equivalent. Being able to hit 230H/240TQ is the goal.
Still looking for input on the rings... I'm thinking stock is out even IF I put in 3100 head gaskets to bring the CR down to 10.7:1 (if I don't have the block decked .015 to get quench in line which will almost negate the .020 difference in gasket compressed thickness). Definitely need to know on the rings as that is the current issue. Cam can wait a bit.
I've ordered a borescope off of eBay. It will be here tomorrow. Hopefully I'll know just what is going on in 1 and 4 by this weekend. I'm hoping the block won't be trashed too bad, but it doesn't really matter at this point as I'm pretty sure it's going to scrap anyways.

Borescope test successful. All hail the holey pistons... Not sure how it happened either since neither plugs nor piston crowns show evidence of detonation or even mild pinging. Hole in #4 is blown in, of course. What I can't figure out is why the hole in #1 is blown up towards the spark plug?

Re: Recommend me a cam?
As for the Rings I use Hastings moly rings they were about 80 or $90 but the coating really helps a lot. I also use speedpro pistons for a front wheel drive setup so my compression ratio isnt crazy. Ask for the cam a Delta 260 is a pretty small cam. If you really wanna make it a little quicker I would definitely get the 270. Also just pay attention to the bind height of the springs. If you have front wheel drive heads you can get some beehive springs from comp cams but there are about $160 iirc because that is the ones I have. But the 981 comp cam springs are also very good for iron heads although they do have a lot of seat pressure so you can look at those or the next step down which I can't remember the number off the top of my head. But those springs are only about $60 then you can get retainers and new locks to match which are pretty cheap.

Re: Recommend me a cam?
i always use moly rings as well , just be aware to tell the machine shop which rings u have as each ring type takes a different cyl wall finish
pm me some pics of that ms unit i am still interested in it , i think i can just install a usb port/adapter in it , thing would be perfect for the turbocharged land speed racing motorcyle im building
