ive kept this under wraps but ive been in the middle of a new build
3400 t72 turbo unfortunatly its not in an f-body its in a ga gt
i just got the heads off and im headed over to the shop to clean them up , ill post some pics of the car and parts a lil later tonight

it is finished , its sitting in my driveway , my racetrack closed down so i dont have a place to race right now
might go to vegas with it in july , and prolly hit Bonneville with it in september just depends on how the alfalfa crops on the farm work out as far as harvest times
not sure yet i need to look into a few things with the trans first , but im in the middle of trying to buy an dfi6 if i can use it on this i will
actually the dfi6 wont work with the dis so it will either be megasquirt or code59$

thanks is going to be a fairly simple build , im modifying the rear manfold and apping it were it dumps into the ex system , im going to put a flange on the crossover pipe to mount te turbo and dump the downpipe back into the factory ex system
soon as the heads get back from being milled they are going to get a lil port work and bolted back on
if i go $59 i might need a lil help with it from you
the seller of the dfi 6 accepted my offer so i may install the dfi on the camaro and use the ms on this still not sure it all depends on what i need for the trans in the car im not sure if its electronic or not as i havent goten into it that far yet
HP tuners is very nice to use. I used it for my gtp i had the other year. It is so much like tunerpro rt. Alot of added things but its damm easy to navigate.
That turbo might be a gt35 killer but its def not a s366 killer...lol Im ready to see a turboed gen3 660 in a FWD car. Thats the 4t65e trans right? I had a 4t65ehd in the 1998 gtp i had IIRC. If you ever need some high end trans parts let me know. I have many friends that are gtp fanatics. Trust me if you need a part for that trans and want a high end one especially let me know. Those things do get quite expensive though, specifically the gears and the chain. And if you ever need L67 parts....lol well lets just say I know where a whole warehouse of parts are at. One of my friends owns 4 gtps right now. And they are all bad **** cars. One specifically is a daytona one, 11 second street car.
And the transmission is a 4t45e in the grand am, the 4t65e swap is a bit of work. There have been a couple that have run into the 12's with the 4t45e...

Thanks for the correction. I have never messed with any grand ams before. Just GPs. Either way they fun cars and it will be nice to see someone just turbo the 3400 rather then swap in a l67 outta a gtp or Monti ss...exc.
But I'll be honest for drag racing.. a fwd car is just terrible compared to a rwd. The fastest one I ever got to take down the track was a 2004+ gtp. Ran 11.88@116mph in that thing and it was just a bear to hook off the line if you are use to rwd, even with 26x10 slicks (1.65 60 foot). And going straight off the line can be difficult as well for first timers. I remember racing that thing like it was yesterday. We get spoiled on rwd cars. They are so much easier to hook and go straight let alown we don't get that ungodly tq steer.

Then why a T72, you don't have anything smaller...?
only thing i might be able to get my hands might be an hx35 but i doubt it , other then that only thing i have to use is a 50 trim t3 and i wouldnt bother putting that on its just way to small

I have a whole gt3582r I'd sell you for really really cheap you just need to know seal kit and the turbines messed up
I just think a 72 mm compressor is way too big. 66 mm is on the threshold of being way too big for a 3.1 liter granted the t4 exhaust housing is what really slows down my spool but having a huge compressor doesn't help either. This would all be different if you were going to just drag racing like I do but I just feel that that turbo you're putting on there is not matched up at all for that car for just Street driving. Just my 2 cents

with the t3 turbine im willing to bet it will spool between the gt35 and the bw s366 , billet compressor wheel is also lighter then a cast one.
at my altitude i need a larger then normal compressor to make up for the lack of air density
anyone got a new set of 3400 ex valves laying around ?
went to assemble the heads today and finally cleaned up the valves and mine are pitted beyond grinding
i have to grind the seats as well so im complating on going oversized

I may have a set of good used ones around. If you want a little more flow on the intake look into some lx9 3500 valves.
its going back together , rear manifold is capped , i just need to weld a turbo flange to the crossover pipe and the hotside will be done minus the downpipe
i did a lil bit of porting and work on the heads but its 100% stock other then that , need to power wash the valve covers and upper intake as well
i really wanted to keep the stock air box but i dont think its going to happen , i may have to ditch it and move the battery to the trunk to make room for everything
i hate working on fwd stuff btw
anyone have a 3400 thermostat bypass tube laying around , the spot welds that hold the retaining bracket onto my tube broke , and without it the tube wont stay in the lower intake manifold
and today i ge\ot a friendly reminder why i hate fwd so much.
i was getting a code for crank position sensor, so trip to napa and 25$ later i got the sensor, drive the car over to the shop put it on the lift and then proceed to curse at the car for 45 mins trying to get the stupid 8mm bolt out of the sensor.
so after getting the bolt out i relize the sensor is stuck , so i grab a long flathead screwdriver and pusy it between the sensor and block and it pops out a lil bit.
spary some oil up i\on the sensor body and then reach up with my hand and work the sensor in and out of the block trying to free it up , when all of the sudden the sensor breaks in half right below the oring.
of course it breaks off flush with the block
so now ive got the oil pan off it once i finally fought the thing enough undoing engine mounts and jacking the motor up to get the pan off i called it a night
( not an easy job to get that big cast oil pan off in the car either)
somehow tommorow i need to get a prybar up inside the engine and try to push the broken sensor out , this ought to be fun
wish i would have known about the crank sensor when i had the heads off it prolly would have been a whole lot easier to get to from the top
after 12 hours total time i got it swapped ended up droping the pan.windage tray and bending up a custom prybar to push the borken sensor out of the block from the inside
brand new sensor dropped in with 1 finger
, only code left in the ecm is open fan circut which i expected , when got thecar the fans wiring was butchered and wired up to an aftermarket fan controller , i wired the fans to 2x 40 amp relays that come on with the key for now as the fan controller that was installed was unreliable.
eventually i would like to fix the oem fan circut
right now the car runs friggen great at everywere but idle , it missfires, idles low and stalls constantly unless i hold the idle at 1,000 rpms
im thinking leaking egr
stuck iac
plugs all look perfect
not throwing any codes
plug wires are suspect as well
Well the crossmember, starter is at least in the way...
i dont think either of those would have possed an issue , prolly would have been able to grab what reminained of the broken sensor with vise grips or waterpump pliers and pulled it out if it had been rwd
at the very least i could have drilled into the center of the sensor tapped it and threaded in a bolt to pull it out
ended up being a torn tb gasket giving me some idle issues , but its fixed and the car drives phenominally , waiting on hp tuners so i can bolt the turbo on it
so far ive taken the car on 2 120 mile drives and it drives like its off the showroom floor, just got to get used to the tq steer , i think i may get a set of coilovers for it just to lower the car about 1.5 inches
theres a good chance u guys may see a v6 back in my turdgen after september
Maybe it's time for "daves9secondV6". I'm all for it bro, if you're serious though, maybe I will do something with the 3800 then after all and we'll get a V6 build off going. What are you planning on building, spill it...

cant put a time on it no race track
but im thinking 3500 and s366 or a 72mm , along with my th350/4500 stall, and 4:10's , and absolutly as lite as i can get the car

The hell with the track, once you get it on a dyno, we'll calculate the power and weight and it will tell us what it should be running. This is exciting news Dave, from what I experienced with that little 2.8 way back when, the 3500 should make for one nasty beast on the street when all is said and done...

im still not sure what im going to do with the car but if i go that route thats more then likley what it will be except i may sell off the th350 for a t56 as it wouldbe more street able , that and i sorta miss having a fun pedal

Keep the car, because in the long run you'll be looking for another one. It's who we are, which is why I won't let the GTA go. I will say to pull the V8 and tranny and just part it out or sell as a package asap. If you part it, I am positive Steve with the turbo Iroc will want the intake setup, and I will ****** the heads. Could sell the short block with the cam and rolling assembly very fast after that. The sooner the better, otherwise you will lose interest and the car will sit, which is not good.
need to get the intake off it tonight to see if it damaged the dogbone.cam or lifter , if everything is ok ill helicoil the head and put it back together , if its hurt maybe a 3500 swap
I've done that before. I remember back in the day I used one of those heli coils with sucess but it was a daily driver. If you need parts or heads or something I can always trade ya or something. I have a set of good heads. They were Joe's old ones they just need cleaned up. But I Def want a spare set for building headers and such since I now have a spare block which a big hole in it.. lol but it works for a jig.

i may need a whole engine , lent the car to somone and it came back home blown up , they severyly overheated it and #4 may have a crack in the cyl wall
was to dark by the time i finished tearing the heads off last night , ill grab some pics when i get back from the farm today
