v6 700r4 goes to OD before 35mph

after accelerating through a light, my trans now shifts through all gears before 35mph. thankfully I realized the issue quick, and drove 20 miles back home. taking the car to a shop soon, what's to expect? is my trans ok?

Wow really ? Without even popping the hood and looking your gonna go pay shop labor rates for something that could be a very simple fix ?

Before you get involved with the wallet lightening experience that comes along with "shop" , do this ;

Read up on your TV Cable . A search in the transmission subforum will tell you all you need to know about it . The failure I'm mentioning is the little plastic clip that attaches the TV cable wire to the throttle arm , breaks (snaps whatever it becomes disconnected) , and when it does the TV cable doesn't get pulled as you step on the gas and since it thinks your just putting along barely stepping on the gas (cause of the broken cable end making it think that) it runs through the gears all before 40 MPH . Why do I know this , Yeppers , that little plastic clip broke on mine , it ran through the gears by 40 MPH just like yours , and an on line transmission parts supplier sold me a replacement clip that went on with no disassembly of the TV cable itself and once the proper setting procedure was done it shifted perfect after that . Namely , the further the gas is pushed the longer it stays in each gear now .

Now if it ain't the TV cable ? Prepare to get boned bad , cause all the rest is somewhere in the transmission itself and opening them up gets expensive real fast in most of them shops ...

thanks for the response, I have to take it in for inspection anyways, so this time I thought I'd leave it be.. but if it's easy to do by myself, I'll give it a shot. if it's the clip, where could I find a new one?

If the TV cable is disconnected, do not drive the car until it is fixed. The TV cable adjusts hydraulic pressure which is needed to "clamp" clutches and bands as the trans shifts and holds gear. You can very easily burn up the trans if the TV cable is not working or adjusted properly. If it is not the TV cable, could be the governor, possibly broke a spring. GL!

Yep , and I'll bet the broken plastic clip has fried it's share of 700R4s over the years , that's for sure . Big Al is right with what he said here Ben , don't drive it till this is rectified one way or other , cause like he said it will damage the transmission to be driven with the TV cable disconnected . If in fact it is disconnected , wouldn't it suck to fry a transmission for the lack of a $2.72 part ? ......

Ben , it was "somehow Disconnected" because it IS damaged , if it wasn't damaged it wouldn't have become disconnected in the first place ! Yes , you can likely to get it to go back on , till it pops off again , and again .... Or you can buy the $2.77 part I linked and be done with it . As to the set procedure , if you go to the transmission subforum and type "set TV cable" there are threads with a description of the procedure . It ain't hard , I just haven't done it in a while and would personally search it if I was gonna do it just to make sure it was right .

push the button in on the cable by the bracket and push the cable in twards the firewall
then open the thrrottle slowly by hand till its full open this will ratchet the cable out till its in the proper position

if ur end is damaged and it caused it to pop off buy the new end for 3 bucks
