Ok, increasing hp.....
Ok, increasing hp.....
Complete Tune-up, how much hp will this add?
Exhaust, bigger, better flowing,
Someone told me you can't put true dual exhaust on a v-6. They said it only had one output pipe from the engine....I looked under the car, this seems to be true. Aren't most flowmaster systems dual??? The guy said the only thing I could do would be to put a muffler on that had dual output pipes, giving it the look of dual exhaust, is this true or not?? how much would a good system increase hp??
Headers, How much will a good set cost, how much will it increase hp??
Cam, Crane cam makes one 2030 as well does ARI performance. This may be a stupid question, but what is a cam?? What does it do? cost? increase in hp?
Roller rockers, same as above, what are they?
ported heads, how much should I pay for them?
Ported and polished Intake and plenium
Bigger injectors, This sounds logical.....how much will this kill my gas milage??
K&N filters ram air, aren't air filters only for carbed cars??? does this have anything to do w/ cold-air intake???
And a Rebuild- got it....
thanks

Absolutely ZERO hp will be added by tuning it up. You're returning the car to tip top, unless you advance the timing and make changes to much better parts its going to be the same as when the car was new.

Maybe 5-10hp. True duals are pointless, thirdgens weren't designed for them, there simply isn't room to do it, and a single pipe has better flow characteristics. No aftermarket exhausts for thirdgens are true duals. A dual outlet exhaust will have dual pipes out the back, but it won't help performance at all.
Headers, How much will a good set cost, how much will it increase hp??
Assuming you can find a set for the 2.8/3.1 (good luck) they'll be used and will cost you whatever the buyer is asking. Hp? Probably not a lot, but then again I've never seen any numbers so I'll leave this one to someone else.
Cam, Crane cam makes one 2030 as well does ARI performance. This may be a stupid question, but what is a cam?? What does it do? cost? increase in hp?
A cam basically opens and closes your valves, and changing it can improve the airflow. This is what you want, cause your engine makes more power the more air it can flow. but the air will only flow as well as the weakest link between the airfilter and the exhaust tips. Cost I'm not sure, check summit or jegs. HP? A couple of the local fiero guys used them and were the same as when they started.
Roller rockers, same as above, what are they?
rockers open your valves from inputs from the cam. Roller rockers are designed to reduce friction to increase horsepower, and the ratio can be increased in place of installing a cam to improve flow.
ported heads, how much should I pay for them?
You should have a local shop port your existing heads, or you should port them yourself. However if you dont knwo what a cam is you shouldn't be pulling your heads. Having a shop do all the work would be stupid $$$.
Ported and polished Intake and plenium
Bigger injectors, This sounds logical.....how much will this kill my gas milage??
Porting and polishing increases air flow, the stock V6 intake is such a pig that you wouldn't be able to port the entire thing. Extrude honing can be done but its expensive and would only remove the rough surface.
Injectors are wasted unless your existing injectors are bad, or your engine is in need of more fuel. Just like a larger carb, larger injectors on a stock engine will just make the car run rich and it'll have trouble idle'ing etc. Gas mileage will probably go to hell if your engine is running rich.
K&N filters ram air, aren't air filters only for carbed cars??? does this have anything to do w/ cold-air intake???
Every engine has an airfilter, they keep dirt out of your engine. One granule of sand or dirt can get in the engine and score a cylinder wall reducing compression and increasing general wear. A K&N will replace the paper filters. Instead of spending $7 every year, spend $25 once and it'll last forever. Performance increase is negligible. Cold air is more dense, since we want to flow as much air as possible we want the air dense as possible. A cold air intake gets air from the coldest place possible. Warm air rises, cold air drops. So you want the cold air intake to be as close to the ground as possible, in clear flow of the air around the car. Ram air has the intake exposed to air to RAM air into the engine. It might improve gas mileage a bit and throttle response at speeds. At idle its not going to do anything since you aren't moving.
And a Rebuild- got it....
if you stayed with stock specs it won't do anything except put the engine back at square one.
thanks

Mainly it gets the car running right. You may get 2-5 depending on how bad the system was before you did the tune up. Cost alot to do it right.
Exhaust, bigger, better flowing,
Someone told me you can't put true dual exhaust on a v-6. They said it only had one output pipe from the engine....I looked under the car, this seems to be true.
Its not that you CAN'T Put a true dual on its that you would LOSE performance fom it. The 2.8/3.1 does not opush enough exhaust volume to be benificial for duals.
Aren't most flowmaster systems dual??? The guy said the only thing I could do would be to put a muffler on that had dual output pipes, giving it the look of dual exhaust, is this true or not??
Yes this is true the exhaust systems that the 3rd gen camaros have is a fake dual. Single inlet muffler with dual outlets.
how much would a good system increase hp??
Depending on what you have to go with it maybe 10 HP. Go High flow ctalatic Converter when you do get the exhaust to get more from it.
Headers, How much will a good set cost, how much will it increase hp??
I am working on reproducing them(Hedman) Now. I have the bender I need ordered. I am selling these for $150 a set PLUS S&H.
Cam, Crane cam makes one 2030 as well does ARI performance. This may be a stupid question, but what is a cam??
A cam controls your valves. When and how long they stay open or closed. What does it do? Answed in previous sentance.
cost?
Depending on the cam but they generally run 150-225 for our cars/engines.
increase in hp?
Again it depends on what you have already to help it. But usually between 10-25 with good mods.
Roller rockers, same as above, what are they?
Rocker arms are what actually move your valve. Stock ones have no rollers, and are highly frictional. The less friction the rocker creates is directly related to the more power they can free up because of the less friction. Rollers are also are alot more stable at higher RPM's and can run alot higher RPM's. Depending on the Rrocker you can get roller TIPS from around 100, FULL rollers around 300 plus.
ported heads, how much should I pay for them?
What you are paying for is the labor timei it takes. There really should be no set price for them, unless that is ALL the shop does. So find a good QUALITY shop and take them to them to have the heads done. Typically between 40-60 an hour is a good price range.
Ported and polished Intake and plenium
Bigger injectors, This sounds logical.....how much will this kill my gas milage??
I have a gasket matched upper and intermediate and semi polished intermidiate runners. It helped my MPG but only by like 1MPG if that. It did free up power above 2500 Rpm's for the increased flow but mainly the less disturbed airflow.
K&N filters ram air, aren't air filters only for carbed cars??? does this have anything to do w/ cold-air intake???
Ok the differences.
Stock Intake. Yes you can get a K&N filter for it. But you also suck in alot of hot under hood air.
CAI(Cold Air Induction). The objective is to suck in the coldest air possible. Yes you can get K&NS for this but these (CAI's)are custom made so you have to get a K&N book and look through it to find the appropriate filter.
RAM Air. Forced air induction. The best way to get Cold air into the intake. These systems start to help at the 30-40 MPH range and do nothing but improve at higher speeds. These Systems ARE CUSTOM and again you have to find the K&N to fit in.
And a Rebuild- got it....
thanks
