So the temp gauge on my 88 camaro does not work and I dont feel like messing with it so I just wanna wire in a 90-92 temp stock temp gauge. The temp gauge on my 92 3.1 is very accurate so I wanna use that. Found one in the junkyard that someone hacked up so I finished hacking it up and took the temp gauge. There is only a 12v wire going to the temp sensor right? On the gauge itself it has four prongs, top, bottom, left, right.. I know the top one is not used. So which is ground and which is positive. How do I go about hooking it up.
Gotta admit, I'm not sure that the gauge itself is really going to be any more accurate... I mean assuming it works anyway. But whatever...
From the 91 Camaro diagram, the leads are marked with the cluster pin outs. You've got power from the gauges fuse, ground to G200, and the third lead runs to the ignition switch with the wire from the sending unit.
If you believe the orientation of the drawing in the book, top is power, left is ground, and right is signal. But then is the diagram from the front of the gauge? Or is it from the rear?
I would expect, just as an educated guess that the sending unit is the same early and late. So by extension the gauge should read the same signal. Judging from what I know of GM, I'd be a bit surprised if the guts of the actual gauge is much different early/late. The later gauge may be built a little better.
Pretty sure the driving force behind the new cluster in 90, was altering the gauges so they could be seen around the airbag, and adding backlighting to pull them out of the 60's.

I'm pretty sure the sending unit is the same. I also picked up a good condition cluster circuit. So here is a picture of the circuit and the orientation of the gauge.. So here you can see the top prong is not being used. Can you draw me a diagram on how I should wire it? I really don't feel like tearing out my 92 camaros cluster and tracing the wires.
