1982 2.8 Camaro - Fan control
Hi guys,
I've got a 1982 2.8l carb Camaro and I'm trying to bring him back on the street.
The engine is running but I think my single fan is not working in the correct way. It's running when I start the engine and it only stops by turning out the engine. The fan never stops running. So I found out that in 1982 no fan relay was used - how is the fan getting controlled? I have changed my CTS which run bad but this doesn't made a deal with it.
Hope you guys can give me a hind.
Sry for any mistake but I'm not a native speaker xD

1982s came with a metal fan bolted to the water pump pulley-runs all the time.If there is an electric fan, someone added that .

It's not an electric fan. I thought the fan could be running by itself, because if the engine is off I can rotate it by hand without moving anything other of the belted parts.

Re: 1982 2.8 Camaro - Fan control
It's a clutch fan. There's a thermostatically controlled clutch assembly bolted in between the fan blades and the water pump snout. When the engine is cool, the clutch lets the fan free-wheel. When the engine is hot, the clutch locks up forcing the fan to spin at engine speed. Failure of the fan clutch can allow the fan to never engage or never disengage - overheat or full time roaring fan noise, reduced fuel economy, etc.

Thanks for that hind - the clutch has to be faulty. I took a look at it and bi-metal in front is totally full paint and dirt (I think the previous owner had done this) After dismounting the fan and the clutch it look a bit rusty in the inner of it. Tried to clean it but no change after mounting it. So I have rebuy a new one.
